Greetings to all my loving readers and music fans. Let’s welcome Portuguese artist ABYSSAL INK to our blog. ABYSSAL INK’S second album, “Bumper Cars and Other Stories”, was released on January 2. This thirteen-track trip combines cutting-edge AI composition with human-played instruments and includes lyrics written entirely by Fred Rosa. Let’s talk more about it
The first song on the album is “bumper cars”. This song opens with a very nice melody and the vocals sounded like Elvis singing. The song is about a lovesick man who has had his heart broken(”I am just a fool for trusting you”). He likens his heartbreak to falling out of a bumper car. The song has a very nice melody because of how retro it is and, it opens up the album perfectly
The second song is called “Helena”. The song opens with a nice melody and then shifts into this 80s retro vibe. The song is about a character who owes the light in his life to a special lady (”pulled me out of an anxious nightmare”). There is a guitar solo in this song that is to die for. It really ties this song together perfectly
Next up is a song called “In Tivoli”. The song opens with a bright synth bassline before the guitar and drum sounds set in. The song talks about a place and a person, who makes him feel free(”I will fly to you”). This place is described so lovingly that, you can’t help but wait to go there or meet this person. This is yet another wonderful song on the album
“Who are you” is the next song on the record. The song opens with some organ sounds before the guitar and drum sounds are incorporated. The song talks about a character who is describing a person who didn’t give a good impression (”a bitter taste in the mouth”). The vocal performance was golden and the instrumentation was perfection
“Crippling Obsession” is the title of the next song on the album. The melody of the intro begins slowly and keeps building upon itself. This song is about a character who has turned himself into a hermit for some reason and is dealing with that obsession (”I’m feeling sick”). There is a poetic performance in the song which is, very touching and moving. Listeners will love it a lot, as I did
Up next is a song called “Hollow”. The song has a dark and rock-infused intro. The song illustrates a character who admits that she’s hollow inside (”I’ve lost myself”)but, she lets him know that, as long as she has him, she will be okay, he is all that she needs. The electric guitar solo and the vocal performance are sick and hearing this live will go really hard
“Low 2024” is the next song on the album. The song is very upbeat right from the start. Despite the upbeat melody the song talks about a time in his life he doesn’t want to remember (”take me away from here”). The instrumentation is fire and it is a fun experience you don’t want to miss.
Up next is “amniotic dark”. The song has a very upbeat intro that will get you foot-tapping. This song talks about darkness in totality. It has dark elements that will let you rock out with the vocal performance
The next song on the album is “Quantum Immortality”. This song is very upbeat and the electric guitar sounds just get you going, right there and then. The song talks about a very confident person who feels unsupported (” Nothing can stop me”). The character was giving off the main character’s energy and the song lets you have a great time
The next song on the record is “there have been only a few”. The song has a very dark and eerie vibe right from the start. The vocal performance in this song is beyond amazing, the song is rich, full and layered with different textures of music, all fused to become one.
Up next is the song “Fourth Turning”. The intro of this song sounds like the retro 80s synth-rock sound. The character in the song is going through something he is not ready to share. But in all of it, he recognizes that he doesn’t think he will survive what is happening to him(” Baby I don’t know if I’ll survive”). The retro sound is super fun and nostalgic, bringing up memories of the music of that time
The second to last song on the album is called “disdain for You”. This song opens with a sweet melody and some mouth percussion. The song is about a character who admits that he despises someone and is letting him know it. He also admits that by doing this, he is becoming something he hates but he can’t help it (” Am I everything I despise?). The melody is foot-tapping and it will captivate you thoroughly.
The final song on the album is titled “This Guy Is Cursed”. The song opens with an exciting drum beat and shouts of “This guy is cursed” before the guitar sound sets in. The song illustrates a character who is caught in a series of unfortunate events that make people around him think that he is cursed. The song is poetic and is the perfect send-off for the end of the album
Fred Rosa wrote the lyrics for this record, which combines advanced AI composition with human-played instruments. It explores recollection and contemporary experiences with a lovely eighties goth new wave feel. The artist mixed and mastered it, resulting in a seamless combination of technology and artistry that defy anyone to identify its AI roots. This was an amazing collaboration between humans and AI that I will never forget
