CHECK OUT “POWER OF THE PEOPLE (REMIX)”, ZOOLOOK’S ANTHEM OF UNITY

No Comments Review

The multi-talented, self-taught multi-instrumentalist ZOOLOOK is back! If there’s anything that you’re familiar with around this corner of the blogging world, it’s that I’ve had the album *Stonefrenge: Black in Space*, as well as tracks ‘Rockers’ and ‘Power of the People (Radio Edit)’ incessantly on loop. And, well, ZOOLOOK is back at it again with another amazing contribution: the ‘Power of the People (Remix)’, which officially hit the air on June 19th. I’ve been counting the minutes for this one.

The song launches with a strong opening blast of percussion that establishes a large stage before a synth-pop beat drops. Right when you think it’s getting into the groove, a quick tag team match between mouth percussion sets the stage for a trumpet solo that’s simply incredible. The kind of intro that gives you instant gratification and gets your feet tapping before you know it.

Although the original ‘Radio Edit’ was a statement in its own right, with its origins deeply rooted in the inspiring message from Senator Cory Booker, this remix fills the framing lens with something even more universal in its appeal, a universal humanity seen in the line “can you see yourself through me?”. It is more than an anthem; it is a beautifully haunting question that lies deep within the heart of this release. An anthem that, with its unflinching stance against hate crimes involving immigration as well as social injustices, urges every one of us to span the divide between empathy and activism.

Production-wise, ZOOLOOK is in a league of his own: a master multi-instrumentalist on keyboards and bass who seamlessly fuses soul, funk, jazz, and hip-hop into the deep rhythmic bones of dub and reggae. The result is a signature downtempo sound that feels both earthly and grand. ‘Power of the People (Remix)’, built upon soulful grooves and cinematic layers-finds its place within that sonic landscape, which is as vast as it is intimate. That’s the true magic of ZOOLOOK’S production: it’s not just music; it’s an atmosphere.

This is more than a song; this is a work of art that mobilizes our empathy and our resistance as one, through its ability to awaken our solidarity with our shared humanity despite our borders, our pronouns, our skin tones, or our social class. This is perhaps the essential addition to any playlist that’s all about activism, human rights, or storytelling with roots. This addition is part of music that not only sounds good, but also has something important to say. If you are into making playlists out of music that has meaning and that is emotionally engaging, “Power of the People (Remix)” is certainly the missing rhythm you are looking for in your playlist. Oh, ZOOLOOK, the man that you are. You keep making music that is better with each release. It is a genuine pleasure to listen to your music and write about it. Now my question is this: when is the next song?
