This album was very experimental yet so incredibly human. Let’s dive into the world created by Dorian.
It all starts with “Intro”, which is surprisingly not an instrumental, which is a breath of fresh air. It does not start with any kind of grandiose build-up or conceptual intro, but with the cozy, ambient shuffle of studio room sounds, faint vocal mumblings, and a soft sound of a turntable needle gently making contact with the vinyl surface. Lyrically, it is Dorian’s personal welcome to the album. He sings about how he feels like he should reconnect with someone, or anyone. The lyrics are short and sweet and give you a taste of what the album is going to be. From the musical perspective, this track is based on an extremely minimalistic framework of lushly sounding chord pads played in reverse and a heartbeat-like bassline.
Going into the adrenaline rush of “US 4EVER” right off the bat, the song opens up with a soft yet sharp, syncopated pattern from a drum machine and a dazzling synth line which grabs everyone’s attention right away. The song lyrically speaks about a bond that cannot be broken and a ride-or-die commitment, taking listeners through the struggles of keeping a relationship together amidst efforts to destroy it by everyone else around them. The character in the song promises forever to this person, them, together forever. In this track, Dorian’s vocals deliver a bold but silky sound, effortlessly blending multi-tracked harmonies, giving her voice an old-school R&B rhythm with a contemporary pop feel, fueled by an electronic bassline and sharp percussion.
The environment moves from sunlit warmth to an upbeat tone of escape in “BAECATION!”. The album kicks off with the sharp sound of waves hitting the shore. This is then replaced by an energetic beat that brings with it Afrobeats vibes. The song lyrics describe the essence of putting aside the troubles and stress, as well as escaping to the comfort of one’s lover’s embrace. The character in the song tells his partner how he would book them a getaway together if he had free will all the time. It’s nice to have someone who would want to plan a trip for us like the character in the song is going to do. The name “baecation” is a play on words, substituting the first few letters and replacing them with “bae”(baby). On a musical aspect, the song is made up of an acoustic guitar beat coupled with tropical synth and bass. Dorian sings the song with ease in a relaxed and playful way, using his high-pitched voice for the verses, while unleashing an energetic chorus that leaves no one in peace.
The reduction in tempo begins with “WHEN YOU’RE WITH ME”, a sparse acoustic electric chord melody that sounds somewhat distant, like something being played in an empty room under a glowing moon. The lyrics offer a deep, stripped-down look at themes of safety and stability, exploring how real intimacy can and should be. The character in the song treats his partner so well that he expects that this partner will brag about how good he’s treating him or her. He also promises safety and stability and a worry/ problem free time when they are together. Once again, I find myself wishing that I and everyone who listens to this album thus far have someone like Dorian in our lives. Musically, the arrangement is kept very understated, allowing the piano and strings to work around the vocal performance of Dorian that goes from a timid tremor of a whisper to a soaring falsetto climax.
Electricity gushes into being courtesy of “#DREAMLOVE”, starting abruptly with an electric guitar melody, deep, pitch-bent vocal stab followed by a flashy synth arpeggio that comes right out of a neon-lit night drive. Have you ever been with someone who you felt was too good to be true? That’s what this song is about. Our character has snagged himself a real catch, a partner who makes him feel like he’s in a true. From tender loving care to being the biggest cheerleader, this partner feels like he was plucked from our dreams. In terms of sound, it is a brilliant example of contemporary electro-pop production with an energetic four-on-the-floor beat, synths, and heavily harmonized vocals spread over the stereo field. Dorian sings with incredible confidence and power.
A change in tone and a shift towards self-reflection comes with “WAKE ME,” an opening track featuring a lone and eerie piano-like drone that gradually blends into an atmospheric rhythm section. On a lyrical level, the song struggles with numbness, emotional exhaustion, and the urge to feel passionately once again after having survived an extended period of personal struggle and pain. The character has had enough of everything, so he plays dead and asks to be woken up when the trauma is over or has stopped. He doesn’t mean that you should wake him physically, but mentally and emotionally because he has checked out. Sonically, the song is built on top of a dense snare beat and hard-hitting sub-bass hits in the low end of the spectrum. The vocal performance of Dorian on this song is tortured and highly emotional, filled with powerful vocal cracks and emotional moments.
Starting with a snap-filled rhythm and a teasing whisper in a seductive voice, “OOO” quickly moves on to a bouncy beat with an emphasis on the bass. This song relies heavily on anticipation, seduction, and the irresistible charm of that electric energy which only exists between people who don’t need any introductions to feel attracted to each other. .” OOO” can be described as a musical composition which is dominated by the slap-bass melody, some vocal parts in ad-libs, and some fun synth stabs which dance around the entire stereo field. The vocal part in the song is presented in a sultry and carefree manner, sung by Dorian.
With a whisper of the word “go”, the song GO!! begins with a soft synth melody and mouth percussion that are very sultry and captivating. From a lyrical standpoint, the song serves as an anthem of empowerment and escape, capturing that vital moment where doubt is overcome through a constant push towards progression. The character in the song talks about persevering and the importance of moving forward and never looking back. We are encouraged to take life one day at a time and one step after another. Instrumentally, the song is the most intense and dynamic track off the album, featuring hard-hitting percussion lines, massive synth runs, and guitar tones that run electric beneath the electronics. Dorian takes the vocal track by storm with an aggressive drive and precise articulation, giving listeners a shot of adrenaline that empowers and inspires them.
With the tempo reduced to a painfully slow, bittersweet crawl, the music of the song “LAST GOODBYE” starts with the sad and pitter-pattering sound of a crow cawing and an electric guitar playing softly muted chords in a minor scale, as if it were raining. Lyrically speaking, the song offers a very mature look at the concept of closure where the two lovers understand that loving each other means letting go of a dying flame rather than holding on to it. The character in the song has finally come to a decision about saying goodbye to someone important. Leaving someone we love is always difficult, but sometimes, we need to let go to survive and hopefully move forward in life. Instrumentally speaking, the music of the song features a soft and organic blend of instruments, including a weeping slide guitar and strings played in slow motion, which swell beautifully into the choruses. Dorian’s voice in the song is beautifully raw as it conveys more agony through cracks in her voice than anything else.
The clouds finally part on “FRESH START,” starting with a dramatic electric guitar melody and the words “happy birthday”. Lyrically, the song is a fresh start itself, musing about the grace of redemption, forgiveness of yourself, and the boldness needed to build up your life again after it has crumbled around you. The main takeaway, though, is that the character in the song believes that love can give him a fresh start. So yes, he craves a fresh start, but he believes that he can get that by opening himself up to love and taking it from there. The track boasts some hopeful major-key synth sequences, a melody house beat, and some uplifting gospel harmonies that help make the chorus soar. Dorian exudes pure delight and vigor in singing the song with such gusto and passion that listeners feel the temptation to leave their failures behind and welcome a new day.

This collaborative magic is what “LOVE LETTER (feat. JUDO)” is all about, beginning with a synth pop sound and a soulful electric piano chord progression that sets a mood for romance. The song mentions a persona who is telling his partner that he is reliable and willing to provide love, safety, and loyalty to him or her. He finishes by saying that the thing he wants to offer her is a love letter to her, to show his love for her. The song incorporates the elements of old school soul and the modern touch of R&B with a groovy bassline and amazing vocal interaction between Dorian and JUDO, who sing their hearts out on the chorus.
Introverted and rooted, “YOUR PEACE” begins with an introspective chime followed by a slow echoing heartbeat on bass drum. In terms of lyrics, the song introduces us to a character who has one message for his beloved: “let me be your peace”. I believe that one of the most important things that you need in a relationship is someone who gives you peace and protects your peace, and it’s not a one-way street either; you too should give someone peace and protect his or her peace too. The song is simple to understand and is also a nice teachable moment. Musically, it features expansive ambient soundscapes, soft guitar plucks, and a slow swaying beat that induces contemplation. Dorian’s vocal performance is intimate and calming, making him an anchor of tranquility for his listeners.
The record ends with “OUTRO”, which begins with soft mouth percussion, fading out the remaining chords of the previous song, introducing the ambient sounds of crickets at night and an ascending piano melody. The song lets us know that the character we have been talking about in this album has reconnected with whomever he wanted to.
