According to Jay-Z, Beyoncé and he had originally planned to name their daughter Blue Ivy something entirely different.

Regarding his eldest child with wife Beyoncé, Jay-Z revealed in an interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings that her name “was supposed to be Brooklyn,” paying honour to his hometown. However, he added, “We was calling her Blueberry throughout her pregnancy.” As in, ‘Observe the tiny blueberry.’ It was almost like a nickname, you know. It came naturally.
