Born on May 11, 1997, Coi Leray Collins[a] is a rapper and singer from the United States. In 2018, she started sharing songs on SoundCloud and dropped the single “Huddy” and her first mixtape, Everythingcoz. Leray released her first extended play, Now or Never (2020), and her second mixtape, EC2 (2019), after landing record deals with Republic Records and 1801 Records. The remix of her song “No More Parties,” featuring Lil Durk, was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and peaked at number 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2021.

EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION

Collins was reared in Hackensack, New Jersey, after being born in Boston, Massachusetts, on May 11, 1997. She has five brothers and is the daughter of media billionaire and artist Benzino. After her father left The Source, Leray’s parents were divorced. At fourteen, she began her musical career. She began rapping in 2011 after being inspired by her father, and she uploaded her first two tracks on YouTube under the moniker Coi Leray: “Rock Back” and “Bow Down,” featuring her brother Taj. But soon after, Leray and her brother both quit rapping. Leray began working in sales at the age of sixteen, having dropped out of high school.

Montclair High School in Montclair, New Jersey awarded Leray an honorary diploma in 2021.

CAREER

Alongside LouGotCash, she was featured on the American rapper Ski Mask the Slump God and singer Jacquees’ song “Save the Day” in December 2018. The song was featured on the soundtrack of the 2018 movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. January 18, 2019 saw the release of her second mixtape, EC2, via Republic Records and 1801 Records. She released the track “Good Days” in March 2019 and travelled with American rapper Trippie Redd on his Life’s a Trip Tour in the early months of 2019. She has a cameo on Trippie Redd’s song “Everything BoZ,” which is on his second studio album.

Leray’s first single, “No More Parties,” was released in January 2021 and peaked at number 26 on the Billboard Hot 100.A remix of the song, featuring American rapper Lil Durk, was released in February 2021; Reel Goats directed the music video for the song, which was then released the following month.In May 2021, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified “No More Parties” platinum

A joint song by Leray and Nicki Minaj titled “Blick Blick” was released on March 18, 2022. It debuted and peaked at number 37 on the Billboard Hot 100. On April 8, 2022, Leray released her first studio album, Trendsetter. Collaborations with A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Nav, Polo G, G Herbo, Young M.A., Fivio Foreign, Yung Bleu, and H.E.R. are a few of the artists with whom it features.

Leray released “Players” in 2022, and it went on to become her first solo hit to appear on the Billboard Hot 100 list as well as her first top 10 single, peaking at #9 in 2023. A few remixes helped the song, including DJ Smallz 732’s Jersey club version.
