Darlene Zschech BIOGRAPHY

Darlene Joyce Zschech, an Australian Pentecostal Christian worship leader and singer-songwriter, was born on September 8, 1965.Her main genre of writing is praise and worship music. Known as one of the forerunners of the contemporary worship movement,she served as Hillsong Church’s worship pastor before joining Martin Smith’s nonprofit organisation Compassionart.

EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION

When Zschech was fifteen years old in 1980, her father recommitted himself to Christ and started taking her to church, where she met Mark Zschech, her future husband, and also became a devout Christian. Her husband proposed that after they were married, they relocate from Brisbane to Sydney

CAREER

Zschech performed jingles for a number of multinational corporations, including as Coca-Cola, KFC, and McDonald’s. In 1987, she released Make the Choice, and in 1993, Pearls & Gold.She eventually wrote “Shout to the Lord” in 1993 and joined the Hillsong Church team.

The song received a 1998 Dove Award nomination for Song of the Year. It has been played for the President of the United States and the Pope at the Vatican. Since its release, the song has grown to become one of the most well-known contemporary worship anthems, with an estimated 25–30 million churchgoers singing along to it every Sunday.She was going through a difficult period when she created the song.

Zschech wrote more than 80 published worship songs and worked as a producer, vocal producer, or executive producer for more than 20 albums released under the Hillsong Music label while serving as the worship pastor of Hillsong Church from 1996 to 2007.Under Zschech’s direction, the Australian Christian music industry saw its first gold and platinum certification for the album People Just Like Us (1994) and its first No. 1 debut on the Australian Record Industry Association album charts for the album For All You’ve Done (2004).

2003 saw the release of Zschech’s first official solo album, Kiss of Heaven. Change Your World followed in 2005. She has since released two albums, Simply Darlene and You Are Love, both in 2011. In addition to her songwriting credentials, she is the author of five books: Worship (1996), Extravagant Worship (2002), The Kiss of Heaven (2003), The Great Generational Transition (2009), and Revealing Jesus: A 365-Day Devotional (2013).

Zschech and her husband have three daughters.
