Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Peter Raul Mendes (/ˈmɛndɛz/, Portuguese: [ˈmẽdɨʃ]) was born on August 8, 1998. When he started posting song covers on the Vine video sharing website in 2013, he began to gain popularity. The next year, he attracted the interest of Island Records A&R Ziggy Chareton and artist manager Andrew Gertler, which resulted in his inking a record deal with the label. 2014 saw the publication of Mendes’ self-titled debut EP, while 2015 saw the release of his debut studio album Handwritten. With Handwritten’s number one debut on the US Billboard 200, Mendes became one of just five musicians in history to achieve this feat prior to turning 18. The song “Stitches” peaked at number one in the UK and in the US and Canada’s top 10 singles.
EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION
On August 8, 1998, in Pickering, Ontario, Shawn Peter Raul Mendes was born. His parents are Manuel Mendes, a Portuguese man, and Karen Mendes, an English woman. While his father is an Algarve-born businessman who supplies bars and restaurants in Toronto, his mother works as a real estate agent.Aaliyah is the name of his younger sister.
He played youth football with Pickering FC and grew up in a devout home Mendes played football and ice hockey, joined the high school glee club and honed his stage presence in acting classes at Pine Ridge Secondary School, where he eventually led as Prince Charming. He graduated from the school in June 2016. He went to Toronto to try out for Disney Channel as well.
When Mendes was thirteen in 2012, he watched YouTube guitar lessons to learn how to play the instrument.In  After a year or so, he began uploading cover videos to YouTube. After posting a rendition of Justin Bieber’s “As Long as You Love Me” on the social media platform Vine in 2013, Mendes began to draw attention. The next day, he received 10,000 likes and the same number of followers. After that, in a matter of months, he amassed millions of views and followers and became well-known for his six-second clips featuring covers of numerous well-known songs.
In November 2013, Mendes was discovered online by artist manager Andrew Gertler, who signed him to Island Records in January 2014. He used “Say Something” by A Great Big World to win Ryan Seacrest’s “Best Cover Song” competition in April. In May 2014, he signed a contract with Island.
On June 26, 2014, he released his debut single, “Life of the Party”.He made his US Billboard Hot 100 debut at number 24 for the week ending July 12, 2014, making history as the youngest person to debut in the top 25. Mendes performed on the Magcon Tour with other young Viners with sizable social media followings prior to being signed.Mendes was also on a national tour, opening for Austin Mahone. In July, he released his first EP on a major label.In its first week, the EP sold 48,000 copies and debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 In 2014, he took home a Teen Choice Award for Webstar in Music.
Mendes released his full-length album Handwritten on April 14, 2015; it went platinum after selling 106,000 copies in its first week and peaking at number one on the Billboard 200 list with 119,000 equivalent album units.Then, with the release of Justin Bieber’s My World 2.0, Mendes became the youngest artist to debut at number one.
Released on September 23, 2016, the album Illuminate went on to become the number one album in the US Billboard 200, with 145,000 equivalent album units (including 121,000 in pure album sales) and a platinum certification.It became his second number one album in his native Canada when it debuted at the top of the charts.
In his upcoming third studio album, Mendes released two singles ;In My Blood” on March 22, and “Lost in Japan” on March 23.Mendes became the first and only artist to have four number one singles in the chart before turning 20 when “In My Blood” debuted at the top of the Billboard Adult Pop Songs chart. Released on May 3, “Youth” featured American artist Khalid.On May 25, 2018, his self-titled studio album was released to excellent reviews from critics who praised his composition and artistic development in particular.It was his third number one album in his native Canada when it debuted at the top of the charts there
.Mendes declared on September 30, 2020, that Wonder, his fourth studio album, will be released on December 4 and that “Wonder,” the album’s lead single, would be available on October 2. The album’s opening track, “Intro,” was also made available through promotional films.Wonder” made its debut on the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 18
Mendes said on November 30, 2021, that a new song called “It’ll Be Okay” would be available on December 1.His new song “When You’re Gone” made its debut on March 20, 2022, when he performed at SXSW 2022. Mendes provided the voice of the title character in the film version of American author Bernard Waber’s children’s book series Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, which features a crocodile that can only sing and never speaks.
