Adedamola Adefolahan (born February 5, 1996) is a trailblazing Nigerian artiste known on stage as Fireboy DML, who has combined Afrobeats, and R&B sounds to thrill millions of fans.
The talented singer is known professionally as Fireboy DML and has won the hearts of millions of Afrobeats lovers with his top-notch songwriting ability, which sets him apart from his contemporaries.
Currently signed to YBNL Records, Fireboy DML broke out in the industry with the radio jamming single, Jealous, which sat at the top of several music charts in the country for weeks.
Fireboy DML‘s debut studio album, Laughter, Tears, and Goosebumps was dropped in 2019. While his sophomore album, Apollo, was released into the public domain on the 17th Of August 2020.
Early Life
Fireboy DML was born to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Adefolahan on the 5th Of February 1996. He was born and bred in the ancient Yoruba city of Abeokuta, spending his formative years there alongside his parents and siblings. He is the only male child in his family. He is a native of Ogun State in the South West region, which makes him a Yoruba man.
Fireboy DML was born into a Christian home and was raised in the same faith. Beyond the good morals that his parents’ confidence instilled in him, it also created a love for music in him. Because he and his parents attended church regularly, he quickly developed a soft spot for the church’s choir and became deeply fascinated with the process involved in making music. He soon got his chance to test the waters of creative gift when he became older and joined the choir.
During this period, the flame of artistry in Fireboy DML was born, and he started to take music more seriously. Whenever he wasn’t busy with school work, he would take time out to compose songs.
And after some time, he began performing these songs to the thrill of his siblings and close friends. In a matter of time, he became famous in his school for being a student with a beautiful voice and who knew how to compose ear-catching songs. But he was generally viewed with the lens of a nerd because he was an intelligent student. He also wore medicated eyeglass during this period.
Another creative gift that he had was writing, which he explored thoroughly in the form of poetry. He was known for penning down beautiful poems when he was much younger.

Passing out from high school in 2012 with good grades in his Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations, he applied for admission at the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife.
The institution offered him admission, and he graduated with excellent grades after four years of study.
Musical Career
Fireboy DML‘s journey into music deepened as an undergraduate at Obafemi Awolowo University. He began spending more time writing songs, which he recorded in a studio around the school’s campus. With time, he became part of the institution’s emerging artists, including the likes of rappers Chinko Ekun, Cheque, Blaqbonez, and singer, Asake.
Fireboy DML‘s success as an artist was sealed when he became acquainted with YBNL Records’ boss Olamide. The older artiste, who was impressed by his sound and songwriting ability, decided to sign him under YBNL Records.
Jealous, his breakthrough single, had earlier been released as a part of the label’s collaborative project, YBNL Family, before it was re-released on the 25th Of March 2019. This decision was taken because the song was already doing great numbers on radio, receiving massive airplay across stations on a daily basis.
His follow-up single, What If I Say, was released on the 14th Of June 2019. The song, which Pheelz produced, solidified Fireboy DML‘s stand in the industry as an artist to watch out for. The music video for What If I Say was shot and directed by TG Omori.
Three months later, in a show of his brilliant artistry, Fireboy DML released the top-charting single, King, which recorded thousands of streams in the weeks after its release. The song, which had been dropped on the 1st Of August 2019, had its music video being directed by TG Omori.
After spending months in the studio, Fireboy DML finally completed his debut studio album and released Laughter, Tears, and Goosebumps to critical acclaim and commercial success on the 29th Of November 2019. The album, which is a 13-track project, amassed over 6 million Spotify streams in the space of three days.
Less than a year after his debut album, he took the industry by surprise with the announcement that he had a second album on the way. His sophomore album, Apollo, was released on the 17th Of August 2020. Apollo is home to hit singles like Champion, Tattoo, Eli, and New York City Girl.
In another show of his penchant for making great music, Fireboy DML released the international hit single, Peru, which helped him break into the international music scene. He secured a collaboration request with singer Ed Sheeran, who asked to be on the remix of the song. The remix, which was dropped on the 5th Of February 2022, debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
FireBoy kicked for his passion at a very early stage in the church choir since he discovered himself to be a talented singer and songwriter. FireBoy DML with a distinctive sound made up of a type of afro-pop, pop, and RnB which grabs his fans wanting more of him.
FireBoy’s suspected to be a one-time rapper who switched to singing with his ability to do multi-syllabic rhymes easily in all of his songs and even play with words easily. Fireboy DML’s massive achievement came in October 2018 when Olamide requested his signature to join the YBNL Nation after being thrilled by his performance in one of the shows he attended.
