Megan Thee Stallion (American Rapper)

BIOGRAPHY

Born Megan Pete on February 15, 1995, Megan Thee Stallion has been familiar with hip-hop music since childhood. Her mother, Holly Thomas, worked as a rapper and often brought her to recording sessions instead of putting her in daycare. This sparked Megan’s interest in rapping as she told her mother that she wanted to rap and already began writing at 16 years old. However, her mother told her to wait until she was 21 to pursue a career in the industry because her lyrics were too suggestive and “ratchet” for her age at the time.

Her rap career itself began after she went viral in 2013, when a video of her battling against male rappers in a cypher became a hot topic among social media users. This led to Megan gaining a lot of social media following. She further gathered fans thanks to her freestyle video that she constantly posted on her Instagram account.

Later in 2016, Megan finally unveiled her first mixtape “Rich Ratchet” before following it up with her first EP “Make It Hot” in the following year. Her music continued to gain people’s attention, prompting her to eventually sign a deal with indie label 1501 Certified Ent. in 2018. In that same year, she released another EP titled “Tina Show”, which was named after her alter ego. Later in November, she became the first female rapper to be signed by 300 Entertainment.

For her first release under the label, Megan unleashed single “Big Ole Freak” in 2019. Peaking at No. 99 on Billboard’s Hot 100, it became her first entry on the chart. Following the release of the single, Megan unveiled her first full-length mixtape entitled “Fever”. Receiving generally positive reviews from music critics, the effort debuted at No. 10 on Billboard 200. It marked her first top ten album on the chart.

Her career kept rising after that. She was named one of XXL’s “Freshman Class” in addition to getting a chance to collaborate with Nicki Minaj on “Hot Girl Summer”, which was inspired by her viral catchphrase “hot girl summer” that she first used in April 2019. Their joint track topped iTunes USA chart, making history as the first-ever female rap collaboration to hit the top spot on the chart.
