Born on September 6, 1972, Anika Noni Rose is an American singer and actor. The Princess and the Frog (2009) is her most well-known role as Disney’s first African-American princess, Tiana. In 2011, she was recognised as a Disney Legend.


John Rose, a corporate attorney, and Claudia Rose welcomed Rose into the world in Bloomfield, Connecticut. She was a freshman at Bloomfield High School when she participated in a school play. After graduating from Florida A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in theatre, she studied drama at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco


Rose’s major Broadway break came when she was cast in Caroline, or Change, as Emmie Thibodeaux. She received the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Caroline, or Change, the Theatre World Award, and the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in 2004

Following her feature film debut in King of the Bingo Game, she portrayed Kaya in From Justin to Kelly in 2003, appeared in Temptation in 2004, and sang in the choir in Surviving Christmas. As Lorrell Robinson in Dreamgirls (2006), Rose featured with Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy, Jennifer Hudson, and Beyoncé Knowles. Rose starred in the films Razor and Just Add Water.

Rose is most recognised for lending her voice to Tiana, the main character and Disney’s first African-American princess, in the 2009 animated film The Princess and the Frog. “Not only is [Tiana] the first American princess, but she’s the first black princess as well,” stated Rose at the time. Therefore, more than most people realise, the scope and significance are involved

In Tyler Perry’s 2010 film For Coloured Girls, which also starred Phylicia Rashad and Janet Jackson, Rose took on the role of Yasmine. Rose’s performance was called “especially fierce” by one critic. Rose appeared as a guest star on the legal drama The Good Wife from 2010 to 2013. In the 2011 A&E miniseries Bag of Bones, which was based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, she portrayed Sara Tidwell.

Rose played Jessica Jangle in the 2020 Netflix musical Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey. Rose praised the way that black and brown professionals were portrayed in an English Victorian milieu in the movie.In the Netflix limited series Maid, which premiered in 2021, she portrayed a wealthy but unhappy lawyer who hires a young mother who is escaping an abusive relationship.

In October 2022, Rose wed actor Jason Dirden. Colman Domingo officiated the ceremony, which was held at the Paramour Estate in Los Angeles. The pair remained secretive about their wedding until January 16, 2023, when they made their announcement in Brides magazine.
