EARLY LIFE

August 19, 1982, was Melissa Fumero’s (née Gallo) birthday. She is an American actress. She debuted as Adriana Cramer in the television soap opera One Life to Live in 2004. After making several cameos, Fumero’s first significant role was as Amy Santiago in the comedic series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which she played from 2013 until 2021. Since then, Fumero has voiced Melissa Tarleton in the animated series M.O.D.O.K. (2021) and played Eliza Walker in Netflix comedy Blockbuster (2022). She is married to actor and former model David Fumero, with whom she has two sons.

Gallo started taking dance lessons as a child and enjoyed writing and performing plays.[5] At the age of ten, she saw Broadway’s The Secret Garden and declared her passion in acting.[2] After that, her parents enrolled her in acting classes.[5] She liked theatre classes because the emphasis was on performance rather than appearances for her and her classmates. She continued taking acting and dancing classes all the way up to her graduation.[9] She thought the expense would prevent her from attending New York University (NYU), her “dream school,” when she got the acceptance letter[10]. Her parents used a large portion of their resources, took out numerous loans, and had Gallo live at their house[11] until she moved to New York in order to make sure she could go.

CAREER

When Gallo started working in the entertainment industry, she experienced exclusion. She was limited to one audition per role.[12] She was offered the role of Adriana Cramer on the serial opera One Life to Live (OLTL) just hours after her final exam at NYU; she called this “the biggest redeeming moment”.[5] Gallo debuted on January 20, 2004, in the series.[13] She appeared in two All My Children episodes again in 2005.[1] Fumero’s contract with OLTL expired in January 2008, and she was supposed to depart the programme shortly after. However, she stayed until June 11; her last scenes were filmed in May.[14] From September 2008 to January 2011, Fumero had multiple appearances on One Life to Live.13]

In 2013,[2][9], Fumero had her breakthrough as a leading lady in a Fox comedy pilot, playing opposite Andy Samberg. The show’s untitled.[21] In April 2013, the name Brooklyn Nine-Nine was revealed for the television programme.[22] It centres around detectives from the New York Police Department working in the fictional 99th precinct in Brooklyn.23] Amy Santiago is portrayed by Fumero as a rule-abiding, competitive individual.24] She and Brooklyn’s cast members trained in police and firearms to get ready.Reference [25] One of the two regular Latina cast members on the show is Fumero; the other is Stephanie Beatriz, who plays Rosa Diaz. Fumero called this casting revolutionary,[5] even though the two were afraid one of them might lose their job. They therefore made an effort to set themselves apart from one another as much as they could.

In 2020, her vocal performance in Disney Junior‘s Elena of Avalor as Antonia—the titular character’s seamster and later the first female member of the royal guard[65]—Fumero earned her fourth Imagen Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.[66] The prior year, she appeared in the reboot of 1975 television series One Day at a Time.[67]Fumero said the latter role was “especially huge” because she worked with Gloria Estefan, to whose songs she listened as a child.[68]

Fumero portrayed Melissa Tarleton, the 17-year-old daughter of the series’ titular character, in the animated series M.O.D.O.K., where she aspired to be accepted as a supervillain.
