On February 19, 2004, Brown, the third of four children born to British parents Kelly and Robert Brown, was born in Marbella, Málaga, Spain. Her father works in real estate.[5] She had a partial hearing loss in her left ear at birth, and over several years, she gradually lost all hearing in that ear.[6][7] When she was four, her family relocated to Bournemouth in England, and when she was eight, they moved to Windermere, Florida.[8]


As a guest performer in the ABC fantasy drama series Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, a spinoff of Once Upon a Time, Brown made her acting debut in 2013 playing the character of Young Alice. She played the lead character Madison O’Donnell in the 2014 paranormal drama-thriller series Intruders on BBC America.[9] She had cameo cameos on the ABC sitcom Modern Family, the CBS procedural programme NCIS, and the CBS medical drama Grey’s Anatomy.


In the 2016 season of the Netflix science fiction horror series Stranger Things, Brown was cast to play Eleven.[12] She garnered positive reviews for her work[13] and was nominated for both the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series. She subsequently received the 43rd Saturn Award for Best Performance by a Younger Actor in a Television Series and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series alongside her co-stars[14].[15] She received her second nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award for her performance as Eleven in Stranger Things’ second season

In the 2019 sequel to the 2014 blockbuster Godzilla, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Brown made her feature film debut.[30] In the following sequel, Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), she played the same part again.[31] She was named the spokesperson for the UEFA campaign Together #WePlayStrong.[32] Brown introduced her own line of cosmetics called “Florence by Mills” in 2019. It is offered by Walmart in the United States, Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada, and UK pharmacy Boots.[33][34][35][36][37][38] Brown produced and acted in the 2020 movie version of The Enola Holmes Mysteries.[39]


Brown returned to the character of Enola Holmes in the follow-up, Enola Holmes 2, and got $10 million for the part, according to Variety, making her one of the best paid Hollywood actresses of the year.[40][41] She was appointed an ambassador for the clothing line Louis Vuitton the same year.[42][43]

Brown has been dating actor Jake Bongiovi, the son of artist Jon Bon Jovi, since 2021.[51] Brown announced their engagement in April 2023.[52] She started studying health and human services online at Purdue University in Indiana in August 2022.[53] Brown owns eleven animals in total, including four dogs, two cats, two tortoises named Becky and David, a donkey named Bernard, and rabbits Eeyore and Becky.[54] She has four dogs: a mutt named Pepperoni, a Cavapoo named Luna, a Golden Retriever named Marley, and a poodle named Winnie.
