Greetings to all my dearest gentle readers, today we welcome the band GUS SEVENTY SEVEN. Gus Seventy Seven is a grunge rock band from Kozani-Karditsa, Greece. The band’s members are Socratis Valeras who is on vocals, Panos Pritsas also on vocals, Kostas Paraschis on guitars, and bass guitar, Chris Koutroulis on guitar, and Sakis Spiropoulos on bass and drums. On 10th May, the band released a nine-song album called “NINE PATHS IN ONE DIRECTION”. Let’s talk about this album.
The album’s title track is called “Torn and Broken”. The song opens with a very energetic and very foot-tapping melody. The character in this song tells people that he is broken inside and refuses to be amused. This character seems to be in a bad way but refuses to accept help or anything that might cheer him up. The instrumentation in this song is unmatched and very enjoyable. This song is the dynamite track that ushers listeners into the album
Next up is the song “Future of Mankind”. The song’s intro is just off the charts and incredibly electric. The song talks about how life moves like a well-oiled machine, it’s working, doing it’s just but has no deeper purpose. This story is similar to what life can be sometimes, but, we need to grab it by its balls. We have to live life and not let life live us. The instrumentation was absolutely bonkers! Talk about vibrancy and excitement! This song brought the energy, moving in the same vein as the previous song.
“Ty Cobb (sound garden cover)”, is what the next song is called. The intro of this song is a fusion of stringed instruments, giving you a soft intro, but, before you get comfortable, it switches its tempo to an upbeat one. The rest of the song is the movement of the sound, from mid-tempo to upbeat in a very subtle way, making you think that it’s upbeat throughout. This song is the hidden gem in this album
Next is the song “Youth Never Lies”. The intro of this song starts with a very cool bass foundation which becomes what the rest of the instrumentation is built on. The song talks about how what we do in our youth is sometimes a mirror that tells us the adult and the person we will become (your youth never lies”). The vocal performance and the musical structure make this song unforgettable. Hearing this song live will be so amazing!!!
The fifth song on this record is called “no one can save me”. This song is yet another song with a rocking intro. The unnamed character in the song turns people away from him. He tells them to leave him alone to enjoy some peace of mind (“I need some peace”), because, he believes that no one can save him from the despair and whatever he is dealing with. The guitar solo in this song was show-stopping and ridiculously good. Listeners will get a kick out of this song
“Old days” is the title of the next song. The song opens with an exciting drum beat and a very groovy bass sound. The song illustrates a relationship where one person pops in and out of(“and just disappear”). This situation makes the character weary and causes him to be nostalgic and miss his life in the good old days. This song and its vocal performance, shift the pace of the album, giving us a mild to slow tempo song. Nonetheless, the song remains a standout powerhouse
“Judas” is the title of the next song. This song’s intro is very bright and vibrant and the melody is catchy. Judas is famous for betraying Jesus with a kiss. In this song, the character is fleeing and when he asks what his crime is, he realizes that he’s been betrayed. This song was yet another masterpiece in this album. Seven songs in, this album is still going strong
Next up is the song “Again (Alice in Chains cover)”. This song has a catchy intro. The song talks about a character who is feeling so down(“I’m feeling so down”). The message in the song is morose but, you are guaranteed to have the time of your life!
The last song on the album is “soulful cries”. We get yet another magnetic and electric intro by the band. The song takes you on an exciting ride that will cover you in goosebumps from head to toe. Yes, you read that right. This song will give you full chills. This wonderful song bids listeners goodbye beautifully
This record is simply the expression of the band’s passion for music and inner desire to create. This album was a masterpiece. I can’t wait to hear more music from the band
