Greetings dearest gentle readers and music lovers. Let’s welcome artist BLUNT BLADE to our blog. Blunt Blade is an artist from southeast Minnesota. On 30th June, he released a seven-song album called “Forgiveness”. Let’s take a closer look at the record
“Sprawling” is the first song on the record. The song opens with a light throbbing sound and a foot tapping beat is added. When the guitar performance begins, you get goosebumps. The song talks about masking pain and pretending that everything is okay. The song talks about the inner struggles some of us have. This song was very fun, despite the theme of the song. I was locked in and at the same time, I wanted to dance. What a perfect way to open the album
The second song is called “Justified”. The song opens with a very catchy and exciting beat and the guitar sound sets in and it will blow your mind. The song introduces listeners to a character who is letting us know that, the end justifies the means. This character lets us know that, to achieve his desires, he might have done something he didn’t want to do but, he got his desires met and does not regret it. The guitar work on this song was killer as usual and it was very foot-tapping
Next up is “helpless”. This song opens with a catchy synth pop melody but, when the guitar sound sets in, it takes a seat for a bit, to let the other instruments shine. The song talks about how fear can awaken bad thoughts and feelings, but, we are also taught through this song that, we hold the key to defeating those bad thoughts. It reminds us that everything we need to chase away the darkness is already within us, all we have to do is to stand our ground and fight back so that, we do not become helpless. The instrumentation once again shines brightly but, it does not overshadow the excellent vocal performance
Next is a song called “Hindrance”. The song’s intro is a steady cymbal sound, fused together with an electric mellow synth sound. In the song, we find out what happens after a relationship fractures. The character is hurt but, this character notices that after a while, the hurt is gone without any pushback from anyone or anything (”hurt is gone, there’s no hindrance”). The instrumentation in this song is unique and, I have never heard music being arranged this way. It is different, fresh, and refreshing to the ears and the soul
“The journey to Hope/Esparanza” is what this next song is called. The song opens with this sharp and bouncy sound. It is then mixed together with an ethereal string-like sound, before the beat is added to it. This song tells a story about a town called Hope. In the town, lived a girl called Esperanza, This town lacked protection so, the inhabitants lived in fear. We find out that, Esperanza is given a talisman with immense power. Upon taking this talisman, the sweet little Esperanza that everyone loved, became a woman with cruelty in her heart, clearly possessed by this talisman. The citizens of Hope, tired of Esperanza’s wicked ways tried to defeat her but, they couldn’t. While boasting about her power over them, a hooded stranger with a long sword, appeared and confronted Esperanza and judged her for her numerous crimes. This figure grabbed Esperanza, who was still holding on to the talisman and they vanished into the dark night, with Esperanza kicking and screaming. The instrumentation became a little soft but dramatic with time. The vocal performance was so beautiful and told the tale of the town and the girl so beautifully
The sixth song is called “Careless Acts”. This song opens with a jazz-like melody with was very captivating. The song condemns three things, careless acts, selfish tendencies, and willful hatred. It tells us to remember that, if we engage in these three things, we will alienate everyone around us and, when we need help, we will find no one because, we will reap what we sow(”and when you look for aid, you find there’s no one”). We appreciate the artist for reminding us and teaching us a lesson, that will serve us well in life. The musical structure was so unique and fascinating. Six songs in, and, I am still enjoying every single song on this wonderful album
The last song on the album is the album’s namesake “Forgiveness”. The song opens with a sharp and bright piano melody. The song talks about a person who has lost forgiveness. He realizes that his life after throwing forgiveness away has become meaningless. In an attempt to go back to who he was, he encourages us to embrace forgiveness. This magnificent song ends the record
As a seasoned and professional artist, Blunt Blade’s music blends electronic, indie, hard rock, classical, dance, and disco genres. He combines these elements with his baritone vocals to create a distinct and unique sound. This album was mixed and mastered at the well-known Abbey Road Studios in the United Kingdom. Each song tells a tragic story, some with a moral, others with a more ambiguous meaning. They are dark, brooding, and melodic. Over the course of 10.5 minutes, the title track transforms into an epic progressive rock voyage for the senses, culminating in a somber conclusion that hints at a final gleam of hope. Blade is a true artist, a legend, and a talented performer, I am so excited and so ready to hear more of his awesome music
