Richie Flo, a reggae recording artist, is from Brans Bury District in the parish of St. Thomas, Jamaica. His passion for music began at a young age, and he grew up surrounded by music of many sorts. The Canadian artist released an 11-song album called “St Thomas Mi Born” on 29th August. Join me and let’s talk more about it.
“SUH WI DWEET_RADIO EDIT” is the album’s title track. The song goes right into the vocal performance, but you can hear a sweet melody in the background. The song is about a character who is seemingly saying hello and what’s up with you?. Musically, I couldn’t resist the song’s groove at all. The performance and instrumentation got me feeling like I’m a dancer in a music video. This song had the right type of rhythm and vibes, and it gets you excited for the album.
Next is “SUH WI DWEET “. This song is the explicit version of the album’s title track. It has the same vibe and energy but with a spicy little kick that you will enjoy.
“PRESS GAS” is the third song on the album. This song opens with a very exciting and catchy melody. In the song, we meet a character who has put the pedal to the metal. He’s on a high and in the fast lane, and has no reason to ever slow down. Musically, we get another fire performance that you will definitely throw it back and dance to.
“ST THOMAS MI BORN’ is the fourth song on the album. This song opens with a fantastic guitar melody. The song describes where the character comes from, which is St Thomas. This character is proud of where he comes from and isn’t afraid to show it. Musically, the beat was thumping and the vocals were total perfection.
Next is the song “ANOTHER DAY”. This song has the reggae vibe, right out of the gate. As you are vibing to the beat of the song, remember that the song is telling you that each day is a gift and we must welcome it, along with the opportunities it brings. Oh, this song gave me reggae fever! It was so good. Who doesn’t love an entertaining song that is also philosophical? That is one distinct characteristic of reggae songs that makes them more endearing, and this song is no different.
“MY DAY WILL COME” is the next track on the record. This song is very thrilling and exciting right from the start. The song talks about how we will all get our time or day and opportunity to become who we want to become. The song reminds us that we will all get an opportunity to upgrade ourselves; it’s only a matter of time, so we need to be patient. The song is clear, crisp, and easy to sing along to. I had so much fun with this song at the top of my voice and manifesting that indeed, my day will come.
Next up, we have the song “BOILING POINT (REVOLUTION)”. The song has a very beautiful melody in the beginning. The song describes a person or group of people who have reached their limit with being treated as if they don’t matter and their voices aren’t heard. This is a shitty feeling, and I don’t blame them for rising and standing up for themselves. The vocal performance in this song was so captivating, and the instrumentation was just perfect.
“HEAR NO EVIL” is the song that follows. The song goes right into the vocal performance. The song mentions the popular phrase “see no evil, hear no evil”. It also encourages living a life filled with virtue and spiritual awareness because material things don’t matter. Musically, listeners will get a standing ovation-worthy vocal performance, and this song can be a mantra for your life and something to live by.
The next song is called “PILOT”. The song opens with the artist talking about his country’s flag(Ghana). This song features Major Steppa. The character in the song feels like he wants to be like a pilot, so he can fly free. This song had double heat from Richie Flo and Major Steppa. Both artists shone through and made this song so, so much better.
“REGGAE (DO WHAT WE WANT)” is the next song on the album. This song opens in a very upbeat and exciting way. The song talks about a character who eats, drinks, sleeps, and breathes Reggae. This character believes that reggae is a lifestyle, and you know what, hell yeah. After this song, I’m forever sold on reggae, and I am going to be about that reggae life from this day onwards.
The last song on the album is “MAMA (OBAATANPA)”. This song opens with some trumpet sounds. This song is a fantastic song about mothers and what they did for us. “Obaatanpa” is the Twi/local name for a good mother. This song is a love letter to our mothers about what they did and continue to do for us. This is a song that you can play for your mom to thank her for being the nurturing and loving presence in our lives. With this instrumentation, vocals, and subject matter, the album ends.
“St Thomas Mi Born” took me on a tour through eastern Jamaica, examining the region’s rich musical legacy. The album, recorded in Canada with instrumentals from Jamaica, Canada, and Austria, embodies the soul of St. Thomas Parish, which has produced artists such as The Slickers, Bushman, and Popcaan. This release stands out in Ritchie Flo’s discography because of his sincere approach to songwriting, which begins each tune with inspiration and meditation. Richie Flo hopes that his music will captivate and inspire reggae music fans throughout the world, and believe me, he has achieved that spectacularly. I am excited to hear more of his music.
