Greetings, dearest gentle readers and music fans. Today, AND THE BROKEN is under our spotlight. And The Broken, a Malmö, Sweden-based indie/folk/rock band, released their debut album titled “Changes”. The nine-song album is entirely composed of new music. This album was released on 8th October. Let’s talk more about this record.
The first song is called “Into the black”. The song opens with a bright and beautiful guitar melody. The persona in the song invites his lover to go from the blue into the black. Now, before you freak out, the black isn’t what you think it is. The persona lets his lover know that, in this black, there’s no pain and there’s no sorrow. Hearing this, I would really like to go into the black too!. The vocal performance was beautiful, and the guitar melody was so outstanding. What a wonderful way to open the album
The next song is called “Changes,” like the album. The song opens with a foot-tapping melody. The song talks about how change is inevitable. Whether we like it or not, it will come along the way in life. The vocal performance is wonderful, and the guitar solo was the highlight of the song!
“June” is the title of the next song. The song opens with a killer guitar melody that is very exciting!. The song talks about how June is coming too quickly after the spring and how June signifies change in the year and in life. There is a guitar solo mid-song, and the performance was very bright and lively. Get ready to have the time of your life with this song.
“Running out of time” is the title of the next song. The song opens with a foot-tapping melody. The song presents to us a character who says he’s running out of time and things to say. This character feels like what is around him is slipping out of his hands. The song has country influences and a smooth vocal performance and instrumentation. Four songs in, and this album is on a hot streak!
“Rust” is the title of the next song. This song opens with a stripped-down guitar melody. When the vocal performance starts, you are hit with the most gorgeous vocal tone. In the song, we meet a character who is comparing himself and his lover. He tells her that she grows beautiful with time, but he rusts away. The vocal performance is just breathtaking, and the overall instrumentation really draws you into the story of the song.
“Polaroid” is the title of the next song. The song opens with a breathtaking mouth percussion and guitar melody. The song is a beautiful love story that brought about change and growth. The character in the song attributes his growth and change to his partner. The character lets us know that he felt lost and untethered in life till he met his partner. This song is a lovely and foot-tapping song we can play by ourselves and for our partners, to show them and appreciate what their love has brought about. Musically, the song is interesting enough to dance to and enjoy whenever we can
Up next is “cardboard boxes”. The song opens with a drawn-out and dramatic synth sound before the guitar sound sets in. The song is a nostalgic song about memories that are in cardboard boxes. The characters in the song are either moving are cleaning, and they come across a cardboard box full of cherished memories. The harmonies on this song are insanely good, and the instrumentation was so so lovely! What a wonderful song!
Next up is the song “Modern Day”. The song opens with a fun and lively melody. The song talks about what living in a modern world is like. They talked about the rulers and the laws that govern this modern world. It’s crazy to think that this is the world we live in, and since there is no promised land in sight, we are stuck in it forever. This song made me think really deeply about the world we live in and want to make a change. There is a guitar solo mid-song, and the vocal performance was simply amazing!
The last song on the album is called “Me After Midnight”. The song opens with a lovely melody. In the song, the character describes how he is after midnight. He talks about being lonely and sad after midnight. The song really takes listeners into the despair that the character feels. It closes out the album perfectly.
“Changes” is more than just an album; it’s a voyage of metamorphosis. Each track delves into a distinct type of change, whether it is deeply personal or occurs on a worldwide scale. Musically, it’s a genre-bending experience that reflects the many influences that shape us. Changes is fundamentally about a band creating music that we genuinely enjoy. There are no gimmicks or formulas, simply honest songs that reflect where we have been and where we are heading. I can’t wait to hear more of their music!
