Greetings dearest gentle readers and music fans. Let’s welcome JESSE H DAVIS to our blog. Jesse H Davis, a great artist from Pueblo, United States, has poured his heart and soul into his original EP “It’s Hard to Get Out of the World.” The four-song EP, which was released on September 17, 2021, is a stunning solo effort in which Jesse served as guitarist, lyricist, vocalist, and EP artist. Let’s take a look at this EP
The first song on the EP is called “Selfish”. The song opens with Davis’s voice and a beautiful guitar melody. This song talks about an individual who enjoys solitude. Considering the era in which the song was made, this character was really loving being alone from everyone. The character admits that he feels like the fact that he wants to be alone, seems like he’s being selfish but he makes them understand that, that is not the case. The vocal performance was so soft and gentle and the message was clear and complex, all at the same time. This was a perfect choice to open up the EP
The second song on the EP is called “Which Way to the Beach”. The song opens with a beautiful and dreamy guitar melody. This song talks about a person who seems like he just wants to go to the beach but, deep within him, he just wants to go there and be alone and stare into the nothingness. The vocal performance really sells to us the audience that, the character is in despair and is feeling blue. The instrumentation was lovely and complemented the vocals perfectly
Next up on the EP is “falling back asleep”. You are greeted with the most delicious guitar melody when the song starts. The persona in this song is going through a very rough time. This character is so worried and so much in despair that, he is ready to pay anyone his hard-earned money, just to listen to his woes (” I’d pay you the handful of money I made to listen to the trouble we’re in”). The vocals and the instrumentation were effortlessly gorgeous and this song was so emotive and profound
The last song on the EP is titled “It’s Hard to Get Out of the World. The song opens with an emotive and elegant guitar melody. The song is about a character who has lost all hope. He talks about his life and how life is happening to him instead of him living life. This wonderful song ends the EP
Made against the backdrop of the challenging COVID pandemic and personal hardships, Jesse embarked on a cathartic journey that culminated in the creation of “It’s Hard to Get Out of the World.” Recording the entire album in his bedroom, Jesse crafted a unique sound using unconventional methods, including a Lo-Fi telephone receiver mic and minimalist percussive elements. The album, with its poignant lyrics and haunting melodies, captures a moment of desperation for connection and serves as a poignant reminder of the power of music to transcend boundaries. As Jesse navigates through his personal struggles and triumphs, his music stands out as a beacon of authenticity and resilience in a tumultuous world. This song really speaks to you and obviously has a huge impact. Jesse has made a song which is still relevant four- five years later and I would love to hear more music from him.
