THE JULIE JULY BAND ENCOURAGES CREATIVE THINKING WITH THEIR NEW SONG “ALL IN OUR MINDS”

No Comments Review

The Julie July Band has officially burst back onto our radar, proving that traditional British folk-rock not only survives but kicks ass in a big way. Hailing from Worcester, this musical behemoth is a master of its genre, intelligently combining the nostalgic, soulful feel of the best 1970s bands, such as the inimitable Sandy Denny and Fairport Convention, with a thrilling modern twist. Of course, the force behind this exciting new musical entity is the irrepressible Julie July herself. But the magic extends far beyond the microphone. Flanked by a cohort of gifted musicians, including bassist Dik Cadbury and guitarist Steve Rezillo, the band’s arrangements are a masterclass in balance. We’re talking about an exquisite dance between acoustic warmth and electric innovation, all lifted skyward by their signature, intricate five-part harmonies. While timeless tracks like “Seven Cities of Gold,” “Smoke and Mirrors,” and “Risky Game” still ring in our ears, the band is leveling up once again. On January 2nd, they released their brand-new single to kick off the new year titled “All In Our Minds.” The latest release is a psychedelic folk-rock dream of unpredictable structures, with a kaleidoscopic journey through “magnetic waves” and “velvet fields.” Hypnotic in effect, it previews their fourth original album, ushering us on a sonic adventure that somehow feels extraterrestrial yet deeply earthy at once. The following review shows the details of this hot new single.

The song begins with a catchy, groovy guitar riff and a drumbeat so tight that it’ll hook you with the first beat. But let this be your warning, dear listeners, because trust me, it’s only the beginning. The intro, as amazing as it is, is just a hint of what you’re about to get treated to, and boy, are you in for a ride!

“All In Our Minds” tantalizes with a fascinating concept: that the realities we construct within the recesses of our minds prove no less tangible than what we find when we wake up to each and every day. Frankly speaking, the concept in this track seems like a colossal sigh of relief. Let’s not forget: now and then, we all require a temporary means to escape from the mundane. The band offers a phenomenal “green light” to tap into that mind. For me, that escapism has always been in the pages of a book or in the lyrics of a song, that ultimate portal to whisk me off to worlds where my feet have never touched. I may not have a passport full of stamps to prove my wanderlust escapades, but it is because of escapism that I have walked the yellow brick road to Oz, front row at the Hunger Games, and Hogsmeade’s Hogwarts halls without ever leaving my couch in between. Huge gratitude to the band for reminding us that the dreamer in each of us needs to be validated and that we must learn to trust in the magic of our minds

When it comes to the actual production, “All In Our Minds” is a lesson in dream-like and psychedelic folk-rock. Taken from the Julie July Band’s critically acclaimed album “Flight of Fancy”, which critics are already proclaiming to be their definitive masterpiece, the track is a sonic tapestry in and of itself, effortlessly incorporating psychedelic dreamlike imagery and the lush and mellow soundscapes of folk-rock of the 70s variety. Through it all, there is, of course, the voice of Julie, a voice so distinct and so unique in its ability to be both alien and familiar in equal measure. From a lyrical standpoint, this song is a true journey. It’s an invitation to enter a colorful world, one that blurs the lines between what’s real and what you think you see. If your “music soul” longs for atmospheric songwriting, psychedelic folk, and female vocals, then you must add this track to your collection. It fits perfectly within the realm of modern folk and psychedelic soundscapes and shows that sometimes the best travel can take you nowhere, nowhere at all, and that journey, my friend, begins within.

As a July baby myself, the first thing that drew me to the band when they flickered onto my computer screen was the name, but it is the music that hooked me. There is just such magic in their sound; it is the absolute mood-maker; it can turn even the toughest frown of mine upside down. I’ve been following them for as long as I can remember, and they’ve never disappointed me even once. And now I’m confident they simply don’t know how to miss! They’ve worked hard enough for my fan loyalty and trust, and now it’s about time we gave them a toast for their amazing and supremely talented team of musicians! Cheers to the Julie July Band, I’m already counting the days until their next magnum opus!
