We’re thrilled to welcome the Polish band Transgalactica back to our blog! This talented father-and-son duo, Tomasz and Filip Bieroń, are masters of progressive music, blending thought-provoking themes with captivating soundscapes. You might remember their earlier tracks, “Liberal Anthem,” a powerful reflection on universal well-being, and “Joyce of the Market,” an ode to the remarkable rise of the Irish economy. Both songs left quite an impression, and they’re still stuck in our heads! Now, Transgalactica returns with their latest release, “The Great Escape: Famine,” which dropped on August 28. It’s a track that digs deep, both musically and emotionally — and we can’t wait to tell you more about it.
Hold onto your seat! The track dives right in with these dark and eerie sounds. But the moment that unsettling intro fades, the vocalist takes over with a performance that is impossibly clear, crisp, and utterly flawless.
Steven Pinker perfectly sums up the premise in his book, Rationality: For most of history, humanity was locked in a constant battle to eat, with the specter of famine lurking after every bad harvest. But that era is over! Today, hunger has been largely defeated across most of the globe. Undernourishment and stunting are decreasing, and when famines do occur, they are confined mostly to remote, war-torn regions. This shift proves the problem isn’t a fundamental lack of food, but a solvable issue of access and distribution.
The second track on Onwards And Upwards, “Great Escape Famine,” also marks the second chapter in the ongoing Great Escape trilogy. What makes this song so fascinating is its structure: it’s built around four core themes drawn from two different Prokofiev violin concertos! Structurally, it flows through the standard sections—entrance, stanzas, chorus, and bridge—but it throws in a killer guitar solo in the outro to close things out.
I’m officially obsessed with this duo’s music now! They don’t just write songs; they craft profound music with lyrics that are seriously thought-provoking. I actively look forward to seeing their name pop up in artist submissions, and that’s a commitment I’ve happily made. This band is absolutely headed for world domination, and I personally invite you to jump on board and join us for the ride!
