YACOVELLI is a “Nu York” Neo-Grunge, Punk, Alternative, Sleaze, and Garage Rock band led by ever-changing frontman Alex Yacovelli (DIY Producer and former member of Rich N Pretty and Not Your Queen’s English). This artist released a song called “Doppelganger” on 25th April. Let’s talk more about the song
The song opens with this really cool electric guitar, drum, and bass guitar fusion that is awesome, a countdown from four, and a very crazy and energetic yell
What comes to mind when you hear doppelganger??. For me, the hit television series The Vampire Diaries comes to mind. In the show, the two main characters, Stefan and Elena had doppelganger, an exact copy of themselves, like a twin but more complex because they weren’t born twins. In fact, the doppelganger of Elena, switched with Elena several times, killed her brother, and swore to make her life whole. This song can be explained metaphorically or literally. Literally, Like the characters from the show, the unnamed character in the song sees his doppelganger and becomes confused, wondering if this person is somehow his brother, his twin, or his shadow self(”I saw myself today, and I’ve lost my way”). Metaphorically, On the other hand, the song depicts a divided ego in which good and evil compete for dominance. When the character looks in the mirror, they can’t tell if they’re looking at themselves or “The Other,” a mimeically synced anti-self. This is clear from the opening lines, “I saw myself today / In the face of another.” Ultimately, The song is about the incapacity to recognize who you’ve become, which is either a good thing or a very bad thing
The song, produced by underground DIY vocalist Alex Yacovelli, delves into the present alternative environment, further defining the “Nu York” sound, which combines the edginess of Bowery Punk with caffeinated Seattle grime. Doppelganger begins with a bendy siren reminiscent of Alt-heroes Pixies and Toadies, establishing a sonic dualism of self with the rest of the instrumentation and vocal performance depicting the same thing
Wow!!!, what a song and what a performance. Aside from the foot-tapping instrumentation, the song uses metaphor to teach and tell a story to listeners which is quite an incredible feat. Yacovelli injects raw, untamed energy into every tune, imbuing indie rock with a vibe direct from the suburban garage. Alex’s music embodies the sweat and bravado of urban life. He is very talented and I simply cannot wait to hear more of his music
