Hello to all my readers and music fans worldwide, let’s welcome Powers of the Monk. Powers of the Monk is a band based in the Pontiac-Detroit-Ann Arbor, Michigan area of the USA. This wonderful band released a single on 5th September, called “Bread And Circuses”. Let me tell you more about the song,
The song opens with this ticking clock sound and a very chilling vocal performance. This intro sets the scene for the rest of the song. Let us talk about the theme of the song, before we do, a little context about schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a disorder that affects a person’s ability to think, feel, and behave clearly. It often results in hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized thinking and behavior.
The song “ Bread & Circuses” is a song about a schizophrenia patient who has delusions about escaping from the mental facility, going to the circus, and seeing the lions eat the clowns. From what we know about the condition, this all might have been just a hallucination.
The song features Bryan Cook (mix engineer) and John O’Reilly (drums, percussion). The vocal performance and the instrumentation were just perfect, and there were lion roaring sounds that really took us into the fantasy of the lions eating the clowns. It really took us there and made sure that we felt like we were there in that moment.
The song talks about the severity of the condition and how much the imagination of a person suffering from this can run wild. The song was an eye-opener and a fun ride. We learnt something about the condition whilst being entertained. The band is very talented, and I await more music from them.
