Make way for the irresistibly soulful debut of Hobo JoJo and Knottie, a magnificent couple hailing from the United States who have been working throughout their careers on converting the naked realities of life into auditory brilliance. Whatever they choose to do, be it peeling off the layers through intensely introspective storytelling, rocking everyone through hard-hitting, cutting-edge rap records, or blending into sultry, soulful melodic collaboration, one thing that never fails is an undying dedication to total authenticity. It is through their music that they explore themes such as human evolution, delicate relationship dynamics, spiritual anchorage, the flame of ambition, human dignity and resilience in adversity, among others, and in all cases, striving to go above simple entertainment to create songs which embrace you and get you thinking even when the beats finally fade away. The duo recently dropped their newest track, titled “Spoken Thoughts,” and I, as their now devoted and loyal fan, could not be more excited to lift the veil and dive right into their genius.

Even on its very first breath, “Spoken Thoughts” starts with a beautiful and elegant tune that truly seems like the very first attempt of a young bird flying into the vastness of the sky. There is also an amazing piano tune under it, flowing so effortlessly that it immediately grabs your heart and creates an atmosphere of deep thinking. However, the very moment when the rap verses start with their vigorous rhythm, all the doubts are swept away because you immediately feel that you have got into something really special.

“Spoken Thoughts” surpasses the limits of regular rap music and becomes a unique refuge for self-consideration, self-development, and those silent, sensitive inner conversations which one has to make when the clamor of life falls silent. The story is about a person who is at the intersection of life and is relying greatly on the force of self-convincing and whispers to himself encouraging words that, regardless of how much is weighing on him, everything will be fine. This is a naked and stark admission of a human truth that everyone knows deep within themselves; that in their most vulnerable moments, when there is no validation from the outside, they will end up being their own shield and the only ones who can talk some sense into their tired body. It is an expression of a very primal part of the human psyche that does not want to give in to desperation because it is certain that the storm will have to pass eventually. The way Hobo JoJo and Knottie portray the struggle of the character is nothing short of remarkable.

In terms of the production, one can say that it is a great example of modern, clean, and polished excellence that puts itself in the sound envelope but does not forget where the focus should be placed – on lyricism and authentic storytelling. The production embodies everything that Hobo JoJo described in his wise reflection about “growth”: “Growth is not pretending you’ve got it all figured out. Growth is being okay with letting others see you figure it out”. This bold approach becomes a part of every chord, vocal melody, and rhythm in “Spoken Thoughts,” transforming it into a piece of music that will not only bring the listener comfort but become a record that will change someone’s life.

What a beautiful Thoughts Preview. The single proves to be a stunning reminder of the boldness and courage both have to be willing to truly put themselves out there and create such an engaging dialogue between both points of view that seems to be so sincere and personal rather than forced or acted. Not taking the easy road and creating those cheap and artificial hooks, the song opens the door to such a profound journey of discovery of still existing doubts, faith, relationships, and all that amazing tension between who we are right now and our dreams of being better. This is the kind of partnership any artist can only dream of! Finding people with whom you share the same interests and passion and who create something that amazing, you should cherish it forever.
