Showing us yet again why he is one of the most inspiring singer-songwriters we have at our disposal right now, this talented man from England creates beautiful pop and indie ballads that do not just sound like songs; they sound more like confessions of a person. On July 17th, Michael presented us with his brand new creation called “Requiem for Earth”, and it is simply stunning.

The piece begins with a heavenly celestial tune that makes you wonder how anything can sound so magical, enveloping the entire room within its grasp. But then, that’s where the ultimate prize lies; the moment Michael Waters lets out that voice and starts singing is the one shining jewel in the composition. And that very instant is the one that leaves you speechless at how incredible and unforgettable what you’re experiencing is.

Buried in the throbbing heartbeat of “Requiem for Earth” lies a passionate love letter to our very troubled Earth. Michael Waters astoundingly succeeds in evading the old cliché of composing yet another preachy protest song, opting instead to create a sublime hymn of love and loss, pure thankfulness, and fiery hope for the timeless forests, the untamed seas, and the beautiful wild creatures that call our planet home. Indeed, as the lyrics aptly point out, Mother Nature is now upset, and for good reason considering the rampant destruction that is being carried out all over our world. From experiencing the unbearable and scorching heatwaves that have been seen in the UK, which seem to resemble Kingston rather than London, to witnessing the violent rain and destruction in Ghana, to seeing the quiet and tragic melting of our ice caps, it is not the time to be rolling our eyes and questioning the sanity of the tree huggers. This is the time for all of us to join them and strive to protect what little remains of our earth. This is the time to wake up and recognize the value of the ground beneath our feet, especially since even Captain Planet would look at our world right now and just shake his head in total disappointment.

Not only writing the entire music but the lyrics himself, Michael Waters has an unbelievable talent in combining highly profound, soul-stripping stories with incredibly catchy hooks, switching from heart-wrenching, introspective ballads to uplifting, feel-good anthems in one breath. His songs serve as a powerful reminder of a simple fact: people will only really fight for something they love. The fact that makes his rapid ascent even more incredible is that Michael has only recently started giving full attention to his music career in 2025, and he already managed to light up the world with his hit songs released every time in 2026.

This song is a critical wake-up call that reminds us of the frightening reality that we have grown accustomed to our home to such an extent that we ignore the constant warnings she gives us. When Earth eventually gets fed up with our apathy and strikes back at us? We won’t be able to win this war and definitely won’t survive this war.
