It is nothing but sheer pleasure and honor to invite the outstanding Australian musician LYNDO JACO to our platform in the most warmest and welcoming manner possible. With him comes nothing but the best, the incredible three-track EP called “3”, an EP, released on 4th September, which is simply amazing in terms of its depth and the soulful electricity. Indeed, an artist like that, with his unique combination of vulnerability and talent, is a real treasure to discover, and that is evident from the very first listen to this album. Therefore, without any delay, let us plunge into the universe of “3” and see what kind of amazing music is created here.
“Feeling” sets the tone for the entire EP with its immersive audio experience that starts with an analog tape hiss transitioning to a rhodes electric guitar with chords being run through a swirling chorus effect; within four bars a sub-bass and hi-hat beat along with an exhaled breath are added into the mix, just before the main vocals kick in, clear and right down the middle. The lyrics touch on the experience of being beat down by life. Theo character in the song talks about being defeated but, it’s important to note that the lyrics change by the end of the song. Whereas in the beginning, he felt defeated but kept trying, by the end of the song, he has gotten his mojo back and defeated the things that were defeating him back. LYNDO JACO analyzes the possibility of the doubt being a survival mechanism or a form of self-sabotage in this scary yet amazing moment of getting winning or victory back. Vocally, LYNDO JACO offers a raspy, smoky chest voice delivery in the verses before seamlessly transitioning into a high-pitched, airy falsetto in the hook section, which is complemented by subtle double-tracked harmonies that create a sense of warmth. Musically, the production blends in beautiful neo-soul keyboard sounds, a rich walking bass line, natural snare rim shots, and ambient synth pads that widen up dynamically in the chorus. Listeners get enveloped in an intensely intimate and resonating experience that justifies the bravery of facing your problems head on
Moving into the next track, “It was for”, starts off with a clean, isolated electric guitar fingerpicking sequence in an open tuning, bathed in a broad stereo delay which hangs in the air before a syncopated kick drum and low-pass filtered synth bass line bring it in eight bars later. The depth of the theme ties together the story as LYNDO JACO contemplates having retrospectively looked for meaning in heartache and self-sacrifice. Through thoughtful lyrics, we are told about a man who could not hold down a job and was robbed of many opportunities. Down on his luck, he turns to robbing and burglary just to be able to get some money. Even though he was caught, the message here is how society let down a man so much so that he’s driven to crime, all for the money. Vocally, the track is energetic and highly emotional, beginning with a conversation-like, quiet whispering voice and developing into a passionate full-throated belt, during which the vocal rawness comes out with full emotion. The track has the combination of clean indie pop guitar, a mid-tempo rhythm, synth bass, and ambient vocal chops which come across in the back of the mix like memories. This song makes the listener feel the how let down this character feels.
In wrapping up the track, “Whats happening”, starts with an urgent guitar and drum melody and a metallic snare clap that sets the rhythm for the rest of the song. In terms of the lyrics, the track deals with the experience of feeling overwhelmed by sensory input during life changes and the feeling of becoming disoriented and trying to make sense of everything around you because you’re overstimulated. LYNDO JACO explores the idea of losing control and giving into the feeling of stepping into the unknown. The vocal delivery depends on rhythmic and fast-paced phrasing within the verses to create suspense, which is brilliantly juxtaposed against the chorus harmonies that sweep through a vast, multi-dimensional soundscape. Musically, the song features catchy electro-R&B beats along with pulsing bass synths, melodic leads, and risers that drive up the energy level. The end result is an exhilarating dose of adrenaline that creates a victorious close to “3”, encouraging you to welcome the twists and turns of life with open arms.
With the help of his amazing new EP “3”, LYNDO JACO offers an incredible tutorial of organic rock storytelling, unfolding as the personal sonic journal of a reclusive rock musician experimenting within the sacred sanctuary of his own studio. An artist from Happy Valley, South Australia, he creates an environment in which every detail seems to have been crafted with pure passion, mixing intense guitar work, solid basslines, dynamic drumming and truly authentic singing into an absolute triumph. There is something captivating in listening to a solo master crafting an entirely new world from nothing, flawlessly blending the unique atmosphere of do-it-yourself simplicity with the power of rock music. Every single sound of 3 carries a lot of emotion and my only criticism of this project can be considered selfish as I wish there were more than just three tracks but, no matter, I will now wait to hear more of his music
