For 35 years already, ERICKOSCAR has been serving as a constant, loyal rock of commitment, ministering in church services through his own acoustic guitar, guided by his soulful sense of grace. Through all those years of dedication and unwavering faith, he has developed a collection of songs so remarkable – more than 1,200 original compositions directly from the depths of his heart. The previous album of ERICKOSCAR entitled “Live, Learn, and Love Without Regrets” has such an incredible power of positivity and emotion that we just can’t get enough of it. Well, that is where our amazing artist makes yet another return to our pages, through his newest ten-track record album, Dime Que Si, that was released on September 11th. Packed with Latin passion and spirituality, this is yet another amazing feat for our artist. Let us take a look at the tracks from “Dime Que Si” in detail!
“From the very first track of this album, we can see how beautiful and well-made it is.” Indeed, this statement can be applied to the outstanding title track “Dime Que Si,” which starts with the incredible, exquisite sounds of a cheering crowd/fan chant singing along, nylon guitar, and a warm, slightly processed synth pad with a subtle four-beat rim click underneath. At the same time, the song is lyrically about the moment when people put everything in one bundle and ask for a commitment after passing all the troubles of life. In turn, the vocals on the album are performed by ERICKOSCAR who manages to create perfect harmony and show the range of his talent and skills. Thus, he starts singing from his grounded chest voice in a velvet tone and goes up to the tenor vocal with pitch glides and vibratos in the chorus. Moreover, there is a beautiful combination of acoustic sounds of the guitar and bass strumming in this song. It is definitely very romantic and makes people feel hopefulness and the sweetness of life.
Transitioning into a lively cultural celebration, “Mi Gente y Mi Tierra Panamá” takes flight with the lively and energetic sound of an guitar melody along with the clean rhythm of a churuca and a traditional folk hand drum beat, emitting tropical authenticity from the beginning of the song. From a lyrical perspective, this song is essentially a heartfelt expression of love for the culture and heritage of Panama, paying tribute to the elements of one’s background that form part of their identity and are inextricably tied to one’s roots. In an attempt to reach God, “Regalo del Cielo” starts off with a beautiful, shimmering synth pad and chimes that play softly with a lovely guitar melody and chord progression played over four bars until the beat kicks in. In terms of lyrics, “Regalo del Cielo” is all about spiritual thanks, for it speaks about love as a precious gift that comes down from heaven to save, restore, and lead humanity’s heart in the right direction. ERICKOSCAR delivers a beautiful performance with his vocals, transitioning smoothly from whispers close to the microphone to powerful and gospel-filled belting in the chorus, all infused with spiritual belief. As for the instrumentation, the minimalistic sound of piano keystrokes evolves into the sound of weeping strings, acoustic guitar playing, and steady beats of kick drums that resemble the rhythm of people’s hearts. The influence of the song on the listener is that of reverence and spiritual peace, reminding everyone about the sanctity of sincere devotion.
“Dame un Instante” opens with an invigorating electric guitar riff, yet another song along/fan chant singing along to the song that delivers a funky, syncopated groove together with a rapid-fire two-bar hi-hat pattern and snare clap. The theme deals with an extremely pressing and highly relevant relationship situation, asking your partner to take a breath from your argument for one minute to put down your pride, get some air and remind yourself of the love you share with each other before uttering words that you may later regret. Vocalist ERICKOSCAR delivers a powerful vocal performance through his rhythmic ability to switch from punchy and conversational staccato verses to smooth falsetto on the hook. As far as the lyrics go, the song provides a profound reflection on memory and healing as it reveals how choosing to remember the best parts of a former relationship allows people to live with a positive perception rather than being bitter or sad after having broken up. ERICKOSCAR’s voice performance is extremely vulnerable and raw. It starts with breathy and low tones that resemble a personal confession of the artist and eventually evolves into a passionate and rough cry that touches the hearts of the listeners. ERICKOSCAR goes all out with his powerful vocal delivery, with catchy chants, fun ad-libs, and explosive hooks blending in seamlessly with the blazing-fast percussion. In terms of the instrumentation, it is top-notch, featuring non-stop tambora beats, sharp brass instrument stabs, walking bass, and flashy piano montunos.
It would be nothing less than an absolute understatement to say that this album has surpassed all of my expectations for he has created a masterpiece which is not only what my soul has been craving for but much more than that. This man has always amazed me with his works, and I have been following every creation of his, yet still I did not know how much there was left in this brilliant artist. ERICKOSCAR is simply capable of taking rich and vibrant musical traditions of the Latin culture and the magic of its rhythms to a whole new level of brilliancy. Each and every composition from this amazing album is dynamically alive and full of world-class flair and dramatic elegance, and it is absolutely obvious why this man should perform on a Dancing With The Stars Latin or Tango night because his creations have all the necessary elements of an absolutely brilliant show. Listening to his compositions is a full-scale transformation which starts the very moment you start listening to it, and the joy you feel while dancing to it is incomparable. This album truly represents the ultimate proof of an artist who has reached the summit of his career. Not only did ERICKOSCAR surprise me once more; he proved to the world how to create healing and uplifting music. It is such an amazing feeling to watch the legacy of this outstanding musician grow in such limitless ways, as I listen to this unique record over and over again, sitting in awe with a heart full of thankfulness, and waiting for the next masterpiece of this great visionary.
