For over 35 years, ERICKOSCAR has been an amazing, devoted rock of dedication, playing acoustic guitar in church services each week, following the incredible soulfulness of his own grace. All throughout these years of dedicated devotion and deep faith, he has quietly amassed an unbelievable personal collection of songs, composing over 1,200 original songs right from the very core of his soul. Following his previous releases “Live, Learn, and Love Without Regrets” and the soulful, Latin-infused “Dime Que Si”, ERICKOSCAR made his comeback with an amazing ten songs album, entitled “Two Flags, One Heart”on September 11th. Combining incredible heritage, spiritual strength, roots-rock drive, and heartfelt folk-pop sounds, this album is a testimony to the creativity that knows no limits.
The opening anthem, “Two Flags, One Heart,” opens with a country infused soft and breathy acoustic guitar strumming melody divided between the two channels in a stereo image along with atmospheric warmth of the brass instruments from afar and a subtle thump of the sub-bass, creating an ambient lock-in of the 4/4 rhythm. Musically, the lyrics of this song reveal the depth of beauty of the concept of dual identity and heritage as an imagery of a soul that belongs to two different worlds yet it is bound together with an unbreakable foundation of love, belief, and home. The story is about an immigrant family and how these people try their hardest to go to the land of freedom and opportunity. This character lets the people who sacrificed everything for him that, he’s made it to this new place, the first step in locking in the dream. The vocals performed by ERICKOSCAR are impeccably arranged; they start with a full and deep chest voice, which is accompanied by warm tones and end up with a powerful and triumphant chorus. Suddenly, the we find ourselves saying and doing things like them which is very ironing, ERICKOSCAR changes his vocal style in accordance with this strong and modern theme, using sharp and short phrases, commanding tone, and stereo vocal harmonies doubling the lead vocal phrases during the hook. Production is very modern and stylish with lovely guitar melodies, biting synthesizers, and dynamic volume changes that emphasize his lyrics. This song is an anthem that will give the listener a boost of self-confidence and help them feel empowered and confident enough to take back control over their lives.
Providing a calming and reflective ambiance, “Borrowed Peace” starts with the soothing sound of the rhythmic hum of an electric guitar , then continues with a slow beat. Lyrically, this track discusses the idea of finding a true inner peace that comes out of searching for the spirit inside, comparing the temporary peace provided by the world with the one that comes as a result of letting go of all anxieties to the will of a higher force. The character in the song says something that really resonated with me which is that, he knows that he’s not alone in this kind of feeling, which is absolutely right, we all come to certain points in our life when we know that we cannot move forward without some kind of help or guidance. ERICKOSCAR adds a gospel element to the soulful performance of the vocalist with a moving journey through the chest register that glides smoothly into a prayerful head voice. As for the instrumentation, it is well-balanced between pop rock music and gospel music, providing an ambient setting around the voice of the vocalist with electric guitar riffs, foundation organ chords and, eventually, a fantastic choir of voices that join in the last chorus.
A pulsating and heartfelt number, “My Heartbeat” starts with a rhythmic percussive thumping sound of tapping on the wooden surface of an acoustic guitar with a sub-kick sound representing a heartbeat at 72 bpm, which is then followed by a smooth bassline sound. “My Heartbeat talks about a character who asks for one more chance to prove his love to his partner, telling her that he’s changed and his love runs for her so deep like a heartbeat . He delivers a delightful and cheerful vocal performance with some natural pitch slides, rhythmic delivery, and a warm voice. The music is driven by body percussion, guitar riffs, walking bass line, and vocal harmonies doubling the melody of the chorus. The song brings about the feeling of romantic bliss and pure joy among the listeners.
Rushing into action with sheer determination, the first thing we hear is a blues-y electric guitar slide note decayed against a powerful foot stomp beat with a hint of tambourine jingles. At the very time I thought I had completely charted the entire breadth of his music and the entire depth of his talent, ERICKOSCAR proceeds to rewrite the rule book and astound us with something even more magnificent and more brilliant. This is someone whom I have long been a fan of, having watched him with my own eyes transcend and exceed his own impressive legacy in the most effortless fashion imaginable. It is that exceptional gift that allows him to take all those things which make his distinctive style so special, the spiritual richness, the natural story telling, and the emotional sincerity, and transform it into something even greater. With a unique gift like this one, not only is he setting new standards in songwriting, but he is destroying all the barriers in his way. With arrangements that are intimate yet cinematic, he clearly proves how limitless his reservoir of creativity is. There are no limitations to the extent to which he can take his voice and vision, and the joy he receives in shattering all boundaries with elegance, conviction, and passion is quite inspiring. This is a huge milestone for an artist who is truly at the peak of his talent while constantly discovering new dimensions of himself.
