Greetings dearest gentle reader and music fans, Let’s welcome Nigerian artist Wrash Heed. Wrash Heed, an emerging artist with a distinct sound, masterfully blends indigenous African rhythms with modern R&B, creating a unique and captivating musical experience. On 24th July Wrash Heed released a five-song EP titled “This Is It”. Let’s talk more about this EP.
The EP’s title track is “Taken or Single”. The song opens with an inspiring Afrobeat sound that immediately will want you to get a groove on. The song talks about a character who has met a woman he’s in love with and wants to make sure she’s single or taken because he doesn’t want any trouble (” Are you taken or single before I fall for you boo”). The sound is groovy and the lyrics are interesting, clever, and witty. The song is enjoyable and you will want to get up and dance till you drop. This exciting song paves the way for the rest of the four songs on the EP
A noteworthy track off Wrash Heed’s most recent EP, “This Is It” is “Showcase”, The song opens with a flute-like sound that is excruciatingly pleasant and beautiful. The song is about a person who has met a very attractive lady. The persona wants to take his time before showing her off that he’s her girl. (” This time I don’t wanna cross the line”) In addition, he encourages her to dance and show. Off her sexy body (” dance, showcase, got your body on rotation”)The song is an incredibly upbeat song that demonstrates Wrash Heed’s skill at blending traditional and modern influences, making it a danceable smash and a demonstration of his range as a musician.
Next is the song “Falling”. The song opens with operatic sounds. The character in the song meets a woman who has had her heart online for so long that her heart is so close to turning into stone. He offers himself up as a shoulder to lean on(” Lay your head on my shoulder, before your heart turns colder”). The character then confesses his love to her and assures her that he will be on the frontline, protecting and fighting for her(”on the front line, on the first queue”) and tells her that she’s captured his heart(”I’m falling, falling, falling for you”). The song is a beautiful and heartfelt proclamation of love. The song is foot-tapping and it will captivate you especially when the stringed instrumentation has a little solo towards the end of the song
“Gbera” is the title of the next song. The intro of this track is these heavenly mouth percussions. Now for some context for the title of the song, gbera is a Nigerian slang which means “be on the move”. The song presents a character who is living proof of how good God is (”God did on we”). This song lets listeners know more about Heed’s beliefs and faith. The song means that because of the grace of God, the character in the song can hustle or be on the move to improve his life. The mouth percussions heard in the beginning are heard throughout the song, making it more and more unique and thrilling
The last song on the EP is “My Road”. The opening of the song is the producer’s tag Name and a very nice beat follows. The song is a tell-off to pretentious people (”quit the game and act of pretense”). The song also tells listeners to listen to their gut and create their path. The violin was the cherry on top of this already fabulous song. The song closes the album with grace and class
I enjoyed this EP a lot. Heed’s style of music reminded me of Nigerian sensation Asake. The way he sprinkles his native tongue in his songs gives him a unique sound and signature. This artist is very talented and is well on his way to the top
