It’s safe to say that Inside Out 2 has people buzzing—or at the very least, intrigued. With 157 million views in a single day across all platforms, Pixar’s official trailer for the follow-up to the 2015 smash hit finally dethroned 2019’s Frozen 2 as the most-watched animated video debut in Disney history. The trailer was viewed 78 million times on TikTok, where it received the majority of its views.
It’s no secret why everyone is clamouring to see the movie: the 2015 release, which follows young Riley (Kaitlyn Dias) and her personified emotions, is regarded as one of Pixar’s best works, touching viewers’ hearts and imparting important lessons about controlling our emotions.
Attendees helped the movie earn $858.8 million USD at the worldwide box office, and Pete Docter’s film went on to win the Best Animated Feature Oscar. In the first glimpse of the sequel, there was plenty to excite fans of the first movie, especially with the casting of Maya Hawke as the new emotion of Anxiety
Inside Out 2 will take place in Riley’s adolescent years, where viewers left off. Her current emotions—Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust—will be joined by a few new ones, such as Hawke’s Anxiety, during a period of significant transition in her life.
With Phyllis Smith portraying Sadness and Lewis Black reprising as Anger, Amy Poehler will reprise her role as Joy. However, due to schedule issues, Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling have withdrawn, leaving Tony Hale and Liza Lapira in their respective parts of Disgust and Fear. As the movie approaches its premiere, more fresh feelings will be revealed.
