Obibini (Ghanaian Rapper)

David Kwaku Effum Boafo who goes by the stage name Obibini or “Wudinii,” was born on 23rd October 1988, in Effiduase a town in Ghana’s Ashanti Region that serves as the capital of Sekyere East to Mr and Mrs Effum Boafo.

Who is Obibini?

Obibini, which is the formed acronym for Obviously Black Is Beautiful, Infinite & Naturally Inspiring, is a Ghanaian Hip Hop rap artist, record producer, and performer who aims to become a leading centre in the edutainment industry. His goal is to create the School Of Afrikan Knowledge (SOAK), which will use entertainment and the fine arts to enlighten, amuse, and transcend generational divides.

He is from Effiduase, Sekyere East, a district in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, and was conceived by David Kwaku Effum Boafo on October 23rd. For his secondary schooling, he attended Adisadel College.

Being passionate about music, the rapper grew up listening to Ghanaian favourites like Reggie Rockstone, Obrafour, Outkast and Busta Rhymes. As a result of his newfound interest, he began composing his solo melodies and ultimately formed a four-member band named the Ill Deadly Ministers (IDM) while still in high school.

Obibini focuses on strong lyrics when crafting his songs since he is passionate about creating high-quality content. Rhythmic Afrikan Poetry is his musical approach. His distinct approach integrates English and Twi, which he believes will aid him to advance in the music industry, thus his desire to learn to sing.

He began his career in the Ghanaian entertainment industry’s underground rap scene. Given his large fan following, Obibini’s debut song did not entirely satiate a substantial portion of his fandom, who believed he had been unsigned for far too long.

He has had success in his career thus far, thanks to a recording pact with Zylofon Music, which has backed his career throughout the years. Obibini is concerned about the growth of his music, as well as the industry as a whole, as an avid listener and enthusiast of music.

With hits like “Yardie,” “Carcass,” and “Deceased,” as well as numerous significant collaborations with Ghanaian musicians like Sarkodie, KiDi, Camidoh, and Feli Nuna, Obibini is one of the active rappers seeking to expand the Ghana hip hop rap genre.

Early Life of Obibini

Obibni was born in Effiduase, a town in Ghana’s Ashanti Region that serves as the capital of Sekyere East to Mr and Mrs Effum Boafo on 23rd October 1988. He is the 4th of 4 kids.

Obibini had both his primary and JHS education in Effiduase and after passing his BECE with flying colours, he gained admission into one of the prestigious SHS in the country Adisadel College.

Obibini Musical Career

Obibini is a music prodigy who always knew that he will become a big musician right from infancy. Whiles in (Adisadel College) he joined the Ill Deadly Ministers, a four-member band (IDM).

It aided in the development of his lyrical style and content. He has also once revealed that he used to listen to Reggie Rockstone, Obrafour, Outkast and Busta Rhymes who were his mentors back then.

Before piercing into the mainstream media, he dropped a couple of singles and EPs which were all not successful because he wasn’t under the wings of any record label.

After being an underground rapper for close to 5 years, Obibini finally made it onto the big stage on 28th June 2017 after he inked a deal with Zylofon media which he allegedly received a Rolls Royce from the music entity.

The contract which is a 4 year-deal includes distribution, promotion, production and marketing as well

On 13th July 2017, Obibini dropped his first project under Zylofn dubbed “The Statement”. The song was produced by Skinny Willis.

Ever since then, he has been dropping back-to-back hits such as (Gogo wo ho, Ahyi Me ft KiDi, Get a life, Balenciaga ft Sarkodie, 32 bars) and many other bangers.

At the moment, his most watch video on Youtube is his single dubbed ‘Ahyi me” ft KiDi which garnered over 1.8 million views.

Awards and Nominations of Obibini

In an interview with Sammy Flex on Zylofon FM in February 2021, Obibini bragged that the rap history of Ghana cannot be written without him because he is a formidable force in the game.

He said: “Every best rapper award that anybody has won belongs to me.

Obibini earned a nomination in the 2018 edition of the Ghana Music Awards UK for the ‘Best Rapper’ category.

He also being nominated by various award schemes and won a handful of them.

Is Obibini Married?

Obibini is a married ma man with two kids. Not much is known about his family because he has kept them away from the media.

After spending more than a decade in the music industry, Obibini’s net worth around $150,000. Obibini owns a fleet of expensive cars including a Porsche and other 4×4 SUVs.

Obibini also has one state of the art mansion to his name in Accra.
