What is so amazing about the artistry of this musician is his readiness to experiment. He creates luxurious-sounding production around fluid, melodic vocals, thus forming a magical realm where people can totally forget about everything else. This five-track EP by the artist called “S.D.M & Love” is a perfect representation of his development and growth as a musician and proves once again how talented this artist is. I was lucky enough to watch this journey since its beginning, and now witnessing this level of confidence in Tyko sounds amazing. It is amazing how effortlessly the genius of this project is presented. So let us take a closer look at the enchanting world of “S.D.M & Love”.
As the first track begins, it opens up with a spacious, airy synth pad that gradually builds up through a low-pass filter to create an almost ethereal and electronic feel. Softly ambient vocal samples are heard in the background before the clean snare roll cuts through the mist to deliver the 808 bass drum with ease and momentum. Through “Swag Shit”, Tyko takes the idea of contemporary flex culture not only as a form of self-indulgence but as emotional protection. Through the lyrics, the song addresses the psyche of maintaining an impenetrable front despite being under ambient pressure, suspicion, and jealousy from the outside world, and also accepts that looking good and feeling good is really important. Tyko moves smoothly between the fast-paced rap delivery with staccato phrasing in the verses and a melodic hook with Auto-Tune that sustains him in the higher registers. Vocal layering gives a wide stereo image, creating an anthem quality for the chorus. Tyko and Big A employ the lyrics to show the distinction between fake opulence and real richness, which lies in overcoming obstacles with the help of brothers who supported them throughout the whole journey. Tyko owns the hook with a nice melodic flow where he sings some rhythmic and warm vocal lines that make your ears get hooked instantly. When Big A comes to perform his feature verse, he adds a gritty voice tone that creates quite an interesting contrast to Tyko’s high-pitched melodic lines. In terms of instrumentation, the production is characterized by the combination of some natural string lines and a good trap structure consisting of a bouncy bassline, beat drops, and pauses that help add extra energy to the vocal punchlines.
The song opens with a menacing, minor-key synth playing against the sound of a ticking clock and a menacing low-frequency bass. In his piece, Tyko takes off his armor, poses, and vice versa to emphasize emotional sincerity and artistic truth. The lyrics are dedicated to the healing effect of honest conversations, accepting oneself, and being redeemed by creative and personal love. The character in the song admits that even though he wanted to change for his lady, he could not and, in extension, could not express his love properly. On the whole album, Tyko sings his most sincere vocals, allowing his true voice, his soft vibrato, and his vocal runs to come across in order to bring the perfect feeling of complete openness. Instruments provide warm keys, soft acoustic drums, synth pads that build up in the background, and a smooth bassline that surrounds listeners like a cozy blanket.
