Cardi B’s photos of her receiving large sums of money from her stripping days have gone popular on social media.
Cardi B, a Bronx native who grew up in the Bronx, was dancing at exotic clubs in New York and preparing for a career in reality television as a member of the cast of Love & Hip Hop before becoming a world-famous superstar rapper. Many anecdotes have been made about her days as a dancer, and fans of the rapper occasionally post old images of her from that time period on social media. Cardi B tweeted her own flashback shot from 2014 this week, complete with a carpet of dollar bills on the floor. Fans shared a similar image and used it as a meme to show how wealthy they would be if protecting their favourite artist was a full-time job, sparking a new trend on Twitter.
Many music fans have had to defend their favourite artists over the years after they released a poor song or done something questionable in public. With the cancellation culture still alive and well, this has become a little more common in recent years. Cardi B’s flashback stripper photo went viral after she uploaded it, with fans adopting it and adding phrases like “Me if defending [insert artist’s name] was a career” to show how wealthy they would be for simply boycotting their favourites.
Check out Cardi’s tweet below, as well as a slew of other people’s spin-off tweets, as the trend continues to spread.
