CHURNING TRAGEDY INTO ART: THE INTENTIONALITY AND RAW GRIEF OF THE RISING SHINE PROJECT’S “HEALS ALL WOUNDS”

From Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania, The Rising Shine Project is ready to release another piece of their unique art to the world. In particular, they have recently published an original track entitled “Heals All Wounds,” which represents their deep sorrow over losing their son. In other words, the lyrics of this track express profound sorrow and heavy grief that one experiences after such terrible news. What is particularly interesting about this song is the contemporary way of presenting it, since artificial intelligence helped create both vocals and musical components of this song. This song was released on April 29th, and it is truly authentic and touching. Now, let us move forward to explore this work further.

The song kicks off with a bright synth melody that is accompanied by a pulsating rhythm that grabs the attention of the listeners from the first second. It is an excellent way to introduce the song, as the combination of the beautiful synth sounds and excellent vocals creates a flawless beginning.

In essence, “Heals All Wounds” is an act of tremendous bravery. It is a song that arises from the tragic circumstances surrounding the death of the singer’s middle son due to a fatal overdose of fentanyl weeks before turning 25, leaving behind a little girl who would only know him from memories. To watch a loved one struggle with addiction is to see an unforgiving hurricane at play. Addiction is a monster without a soul, which claims more lives each day through its silent and deadly wrath than any pandemic or illness. It is tragic that, in this case, it is an unwinnable battle. However, despite this tremendous loss, the artist has created something absolutely beautiful in light of this unimaginable tragedy. This music has become the best gift that the artist could give their son, a tribute to be remembered. Writing about such an intense issue, one of the hardest problems faced by society, in the context of personal tragedy, is no easy feat. However, the song achieves the feat miraculously; it does not dwell in sorrow alone but turns the tragedy into a monument of love and memories for eternity.

This song came into existence through a mundane commute, but took form when the artist was emotionally affected within the walls of his studio. The delicate balance lies between grief and righteous rage, both rooted in the intense feelings of love and protection for his family members, especially the fatherly bond. So intense were the lyrics that Stoll feels this music is a divine creation. It resonates strongly with “What’s a promise worth, if it has yet to be spoken? And what’s a house of dreams, with its windows shattered?” Though the virtual history of the track claims its creation on January 1, 1970, the reality is that its influence is alive today, affecting many people in their lives. As a matter of fact, the emotional nature of the work was able to elicit some strong reactions from the listeners and has succeeded in its primary mission of being a symbol of solidarity for those struggling with addiction.

Intentionality and visual representations go together like peanut butter and jelly; however, it is one of those things about creating music that artists tend to overlook all too often. In cases where there is some due diligence on the creator’s part, then, as the curator, it is my job to shed some light on it. The Rising Shine Project definitely pulled out all the stops. Instead of using the lyrics and theme solely to convey the emotions felt by the artist in this song, we have been provided with a visual component that forces us to see beyond the surface and into something much more profound. In the picture, five people are surrounding a tombstone, their heads lowered so low in sadness that even the picture makes one feel how heavy their grief is just through their body language. They are Stoll’s family members, capturing their grieving moment for their dear one. At the base of the tombstone lies a guitar, which serves as a symbolic representation of the song itself and its transformation into a tribute. Through this method of storytelling, “Heals All Wounds” rises above its music, and we become witnesses to the physical embodiment of the heartache that the artist endured.

This is not just another song, but rather a spiritual ode to a life cut short too soon. This song acts as an important, gentle message for those families who have to walk on the very thin line of supporting their loved ones in their fight against addiction. This song gently reminds us that we have to hold on because life can always take a turn tomorrow, and one should never take tomorrow for granted. In an era where there is cynicism about how technology could affect the future, this particular track is definite proof that technology can actually be applied to do some tremendous good. This particular album can act as an avenue through which the soul speaks when sorrow and grief seem to overwhelm the person. It takes an incredibly brave, open heart and soul with a lot of talent to turn sorrow into something as beautiful as this, and in the case of The Rising Shine Project, they have succeeded tremendously. To the artist: We sincerely sympathize with your loss and look forward to your next musical adventure.
