Danny Bell and His Disappointments, a British Columbia-based indie-folk band, have returned with a new tune, “Killing Birds,” as well as a video to go along with it.
“Killing Birds” is the lead single from their upcoming EP of the same name, which will be released on June 2, 2022. The new EP comes after the release of their sophomore album, Songs For The Town, in December of 2021.
‘Killing Birds,’ an apparently mundane but tremendously tragic story, portrays the daily lives of an abandoned sawmill caretaker. The chirpy soundtrack-esque tune of the flowery folk tune feels like it would be appropriate for some kind of charming sitcom about day-to-day living. Based on the items he leaves behind after his shifts at the mill, the track makes educated estimates about the worker’s identity. It transforms a seemingly insignificant incident into something not only intriguing and inquiring, but also mellowly musical in the finest conceivable way.

This chirpy yet laidback bit of indie folk comes with an equally amusing and whimsical video, making it ideal for lying back and relaxing on a balmy Sunday morning. ‘Killing Birds,’ a near-perfect blend of jazz and folk, is unlike anything you’ve heard before and all you’ve hoped for.
