Hello distinguished readers and music fans. Today we welcome back to our blog US artist ZOOLOOK. ZOOLOOK is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist artist. I had the privilege to savor his album “Stonehenge: Black in Space and his single “Rockers (Challenge Remix”). The album and the song meant so much to me. ZOOLOOK returns to us yet again, bearing a gift in the form of a single titled “Power of the People (Radio Edit)”. The wonderful song was released on 20th April. Let’s talk more about this song
The song has this retro 80’s disco vibe right from the start and has these fun mouth percussion and sax sounds scattered throughout the song that are extremely captivating
The song was originally titled Power to the People, but after seeing Senator Cory Booker’s historic statement on the Senate floor, ZOOLOOK was inspired to rename it Power of the People, altering the emphasis from a demand to a proclamation. “Senator Booker’s statements reminded him that the people have more power than those in power. That’s the energy he wanted to celebrate in this song. The song really encourages listeners to take action and try to make things work (“We can make it work”)
ZOOLOOK draws inspiration from Motown grooves, Bernard Edwards, Maurice Gibb, and Mario Mantese’s deep basslines, as well as the atmospheric synths of Jean-Michel Jarre, Herbie Hancock, Kraftwerk, and Kitaro. The end effect is a type of music that seems both ageless and immediately relevant. “ZOOLOOK’S sound is rooted in the message and melody of the ’60s, ’70s, and’ ”80s—where bass grooves met rich synths, and every song had something to say. “With Power of the People, he wanted to capture that same spirit with music that moves you physically and emotionally.”
This song is the embodiment of empowerment, even the artwork of the single, is a a fist, an image that is synonymous with democratic power and democratic values.
