If any of you have been following my music adventures for any period of time, then you know that it is of my nature to support the art that doesn’t hide its face in artificial polish, art that shows its truth without shame. And let me introduce you to Joyce Lopez Jose. For those of you who haven’t had the fortune of discovering her yet, I will say right away that she is an absolutely outstanding musician who combines in herself an unusual ability to delve into the most secret corners of her very own diary and transfer all this lived experience into soulful songs that seem not to be songs at all, but rather mirrors that reflect the beats of your very own heart. On the 18th of September, Joyce Lopez Jose gifted us with a masterpiece that absolutely shook me in the best possible way: her brilliant new song, “Pink.” Let’s get started
With her first-ever drifting chord, Joyce engulfs us in the most wonderful, tender hug of truth and naked emotions. Her vocals aren’t singing the song; she’s embodying the lyrics through her graceful ease of movement that will stay in the air even after she ends the last verse. “Pink” is one hell of a song that will teach us a lot about storytelling- so fragile, yet so strong- and it will remind us again how Joyce composes not only current music, but something eternal.
By far, the most delightful and holy element of this whole experience has been the suspenseful act of waiting for her arrival—and in some inexplicable way, all this build-up resulted in a joyous song named “Pink.”
For Joyce, “Pink” is not just another addition to her repertoire of songs, but rather an open-hearted letter directed to her daughter. After going through the pain of the silent heartbreak of miscarriages, finding out that she is now carrying her rainbow baby has introduced light to her life once again. For her, nesting is not about decorating rooms or setting up a nursery, but a whole lot more spiritual and transformative, marking the start of her new chapter. It is truly amazing to see the moment when a rainbow baby arrives – an exquisite child who was brought into the world after countless prayers, hopes, and the brave journey through the valleys of IVF. Breaking through the darkness is a testament to how incredibly strong the human spirit really is, and it is such a beautiful experience that one cannot but have tears in one’s eyes from just seeing the words written down. “Pink” encompasses all of it, honoring both the past pain and the glorious hope of the future.
Blossoming from the fertile ground of classic pop, the artistry of Joyce comes naturally to combine the beauty of timelessness with that of an acute modernity, as it bravely explores the complexity of vulnerability, memory, and the purity of storytelling. In every musical phrase she creates, her heart beats to create an inviolable bond with her audience by saying the one thing that everyone’s heart beats with: every individual story of a human has the power of becoming a song.
Calm yourself, take a breather, and allow me to talk to you about real intention in music. The vast majority of artists give us the tale behind their songs through the well-known pathways of lyrics and theme. However, from time to time, artists do something out of the ordinary and venture even farther into the area of the visionary, where they incorporate the visual language into their work so well that the piece of art begins breathing on its own. While the music video released along with it is a whole experience, it is the album cover art that really takes our breath away. In this picture, one sees Joyce dressed in an exquisite baby pink dress that shows her pregnant belly most tenderly and beautifully. She seems very regal and emanates a very profound and bright happiness that does not look as if she was just posing for the shot but rather it was something that has been captured as if by magic. This picture is in complete sync with the lyrics of the song. It is a stroke of pure genius only the best artists can do.
It’s been a very long time since I heard a song that not only played through my speakers but also emerged out of the queue of my Spotify account to find its way deep within my heart. With this song, Joyce gave us more than a beautiful melody; she opened up the gates of her life and trusted us with something very vulnerable, sacred, and precious. This is a song that is going to stay alive in my soul forever. Even better, it serves as a perfect beacon of hope for all women who take this journey. The reason? It simply tells them in one powerful and universal message that what happened to me will happen to you too. A million heartfelt congrats to Joyce for her wonderful baby girl. All my prayers are with her for an experience of childbirth which will be nothing but miraculous and unforgettable. It is something I’m sure she will share with all of us at the perfect time because of how she uses art to love us. Congrats once again to you, Joyce. Thank you for your strength and magic.
