Soprano Ailsa McIntosh and songwriter/musician Graeme Park collaborated to create Mariele, a music project from Cumbria, England. Inspired by his return to music after a period of sadness following the death of his father, Graeme’s and Mariela’s first Christmas song, “Now Christmas Can Begin,” was released on December 19.
The song has a solemn, choral, and somber intro that is jaw-dropping
This song is crucial because After his mother passed away unexpectedly in 2020, Graeme’s grief reaction kept him from wanting to pursue music for several months. However, after spending a few minutes at the piano, he wrote the song “Now Christmas Can Begin,” which came so quickly, possibly as a gift to help him get back into music. “Now Mariele-Now Christmas Can Begin” is more painful now that he has lost his father as well, a theme that the character in the song was dealing with too. This character, who against all the odds makes it back home to celebrate Christmas with his or her loved ones(“Now that you’re here, Christmas can begin”). Christmas time is a time for family and to spend time with our family members we don’t see often. Sometimes, there are certain people who make the celebration extra special and because of them we hold off celebrating till they are home with us this song is an illustration of this message
The sentimental song “Christmas Can Begin” shares memories of previous Christmases with those who are no longer with us and conveys a message to Ailsa gives the song a stunningly beautiful and poignant vocal performance by drawing on her extensive stage and studio vocal experience.
This is not just a song, it is a beacon of hope and nostalgia that the people we lose will always be with us and that we will heal.
