Dinklage slammed the upcoming live-action adaptation as a “f*cking backwards storey about seven dwarfs living in a cave,” according to the actor.
Disney is now working on an updated version of Snow White, so those live-action remakes will continue. The classic 1961 animation is a favourite among Disney purists, but the business has faced flak since its announcement. The news that Colombian-American actress Rachel Zegler would play the iconic porcelain-skinned Disney princess sparked racist slurs directed at the West Side Story star.
The live-action remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is receiving yet another round of criticism, this time from Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage, who can’t believe Disney even considered dredging up the plot for a second time. The acclaimed actor suffers from achondroplasia, a type of dwarfism that affects many people.
“Literally no offense to anyone, but I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White, but you’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” Dinklage said while on Marc Moron’s WTF podcast. “Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me.”
“You’re progressive in one way, but then you’re still making that f*cking backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the f*ck are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox?” he added. “I guess I’m not loud enough. I don’t know which studio that is, but they were so proud of it. All love and respect to the actress and all the people who thought they were doing the right thing. But I’m just like, what are you doing?”
There isn’t much information regarding this film’s development, although Dinklage isn’t completely opposed to it continuing forward. “If you tell the storey of Snow White with the most f*cked up, groovy, or progressive twist on it? Let’s do it. All in.” Meanwhile, the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, starring Halle Bailey, appears to be next on Disney’s calendar.
