Buckle up, folks, because royalty is back on our blog, ready to reign: meet Sam Ostler, the colossus, the innovator, our super-star himself! Sam Ostler, as a pianist and a songwriter, has a unique grace that cannot be taught; he has the power to create melodies that don’t just fill the room, but make their way straight into the holy spaces between beats. For those of us who have been on this musical journey with Sam, listening to his tracks is a true homecoming experience. “Dancing in the Stars,” “Unconditional Love,” and the breathtaking warmth of “Closer Than You Know” are more than just songs; they are the life-long soundtrack of our lives and form an integral part of our personal playlists. There is something immensely powerful about his music, something that will capture your emotions and draw you into his world, never letting go long after the last note falls away into absolute silence. With his stunning new release titled “Alone,” releasing on the 24th of July, he once again manages to warm his way back into our playlists and rule over our hearts. So grab a drink and let’s lose ourselves in his magic!
The song begins with one of the most astonishing piano melodies I have ever heard in my life, a graceful line of music that does not feel like an opening at all but rather like being awakened gently. And right after you believe that you’ve reached the highest point of the song, comes the second part of it, which rushes towards you in the form of a powerful tsunami of emotions, Sam’s voice, which sounds flawless and takes you off your feet immediately.
Thematically, “Alone” is a very personal pop song that peels away the deepest wounds of the human heart, boldly delving into the intricate maze of love, loss, and painful longing. This song brings to light the most painful experience of being lost without someone who was once the only one for you in the whole world. No matter how bitter the reminiscences of the romance or how sad and painful the departure of any other significant person from your life might be, there is always a crushing feeling of sorrow and loneliness. It leaves a residual, empty longing—a deep-rooted pain that you know will require time and grace to mend. However, amidst all that loneliness, there exists a comforting sense of solace in knowing that you are not alone in your darkness; it’s validating to know that you’re not the only one who has experienced this particular heartbreak, and that such an extraordinary song could find you at just the right time.
By flawlessly integrating Sam’s brutally honest lyrics with soaring and memorable melodies, alongside her distinctive vocals, the song creates a journey that is not only highly personal but also widely relatable at the same time. “Alone” is brilliantly crafted by Adam James, as the song successfully pays tribute to the singer-songwriter’s classical piano-based songs but manages to evolve into an impressive pop song in its own right. “Alone” is a wonderful example of effective songwriting in which the song begins as a vulnerable song before evolving into a majestic anthem.
Sam’s unique musical fingerprint – an awe-inspiring combination of stirring piano songs and anthemic rockers – pays homage to his iconic influences such as Elton John, U2, Take That, James Blunt, and Coldplay, but Sam manages to wear his influences with ease as he establishes his own unique style. Being a person who has been following Sam’s incredible career and witnessing his talent firsthand, I thought I knew where his talent would go, but each time I listen to his music, I am overwhelmed by those goosebumps. Sam’s music is not just some background music for you to hum along to; it is something spiritual – he touches on very emotional and deep issues in his lyrics. Huge congratulations to Sam Ostler on such an outstanding album!
