Thanksgiving offers a glimpse of Eli Roth’s idea for a feature film. Thanksgiving is a full-length film that is based on a slasher parody trailer that director Eli Roth made for the 2007 throwback double feature Grindhouse, which included fake vintage trailers for Robert Rodriguez’s Planet Terror and Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof.
Thanksgiving releases in theatres this November. Thanksgiving featured a cast that included Patrick Dempsey, Milo Manheim, Gina Gershon, and Addison Rae, the star of TikTok. The film is a slasher movie in the vein of the early 1980s.
While there have been a number of holiday-themed horror films throughout the years, notable examples include Krampus and Black Christmas, both of which were set during the Christmas season, Thanksgiving will be one of the few horror films set on its titular holiday. It remains to be seen whether the picture will appeal to moviegoers, but with Roth at the helm, they are certain to be delivered a bloody feast this holiday season.
Thanksgiving will originally have an exclusive theatrical release, with no plans for a digital distribution.
