It brings us much joy to have back with us the ingenious Stephen H. Cumberbatch, known in the industry by his stage name C’batch. To simply describe him as an artist would be doing him a major injustice; no, he is one of the building blocks of the music world. From his base at Stevette Music, Inc., he has continued to hone his skills as a creator of art, demonstrating that mastering your craft is a lifetime process. While I will always be grateful to him for the soul-stirring song “Song For God,” which has become a regular feature on my playlist, I am excited to explore another dimension of his talent with his latest release, which was released on March 15th under the title “Trapped (I’m Doing Fine).”
Right from the start, it pulls you into a tune that is both lively and enchanting, creating an interesting premise for what is to follow. While the music itself is beautiful in its layers, the real magic comes when the vocals kick in. This is a show meant to make your head spin; it absolutely left me speechless, and I’m sure it’s going to leave you just as impressed the minute he starts singing.
Blending a tapestry of different musical influences, the song manages to skillfully balance the fine line between the inner struggle of individuals and their need to maintain a calm exterior for everyone else. Working with C’batch has been a humbling experience; I have come to learn that his magic lies not in luck, but in the unique makeup of his brain. C’batch is a rare breed in terms of frequency because he can bring humanity into his sounds. With this song, he brings the internal battles that most people overlook into the limelight and I am grateful to see him use his power in such an impactful way. This work is a necessity and a great story and one that will leave us all satisfied yet wanting more. All I want to ask now is the destination of the next adventure, for I know wherever that might be, I am prepared for the trip.
