In his upcoming film, Mark Wahlberg portrays a fantastic athlete who meets an even more incredible dog. Exclusively for PEOPLE, Lionsgate and Tooley Entertainment released the trailer for Mark Wahlberg’s upcoming movie Arthur the King on Wednesday.

Wahlberg, 52, plays Swedish extreme athlete and author Mikael Lindnord, who met his four-legged companion Arthur while competing in an adventure racing competition. The film is based on Lindnord’s 2017 book Arthur: The Dog Who Crossed The Jungle To Find A Home.

Inspired by the dog’s seemingly impossible journey across the race’s path to keep up with him, Michael and his team take in the pooch, name him “Arthur the King” and make him their mascot en route to an inspiring finish.

According to a 2016 ESPN feature on the couple, Lindnord, the subject of the movie, actually lived with Arthur for six years after meeting the dog at a championship adventure race in Ecuador in 2014. In an Instagram post from 2020, Lindnord revealed Arthur’s passing, stating that the dog’s “life was bigger than life itself and I still see and hear you everywhere in the house.”

The cast of the new film also features Juliet Rylance, Paul Guilfoyle, Ali Suliman, Natalie Emmanuel, and Wahlberg and Liu. March 22, 2024 is when Arthur the King opens in theatres.
