This is an exceptional day filled with joyous excitement, because we are incredibly fortunate to have the wonderful, gifted English artist FIONA AMAKA return to our virtual family once more. There are those artists who can captivate us for a mere moment of time, but then there are others like Fiona, whose exceptional talents not only capture you but hold you prisoner. The two pieces of her that I will never forget are “No Daylight” and “Honesty (Psalm 139)”. Her music is my sanctuary, that steady light in the darkness, and quite simply, there’s nothing I’d change about that. Well, today she’s blessed us with yet another release, her stunning new single called “Sometimes Forever,” released September 25th and already firmly settled into our rotation. Have a nice drink to keep you warm and cozy, get comfortable, and allow me to guide you on a ride through the stunning depths of this new release.
The song starts with an insane explosion of intense electric guitars and a hypnotic drum line that makes you want to listen to it from the very beginning. However, when you thought that you already got it all figured out, the vocals come in – and right at that amazing point in time, you realize that this song will forever be stuck in your head and play in your mind forever and ever.
On an emotional and intellectual level, “Sometimes Forever” is a philosophically beautiful and reassuring song that plays out against a catchy tune, addressing one of the few realities in life that everyone avoids: the fact that every intense romantic relationship we have will ultimately come to an end. Let us be completely honest about this for once – every relationship that we have ever been in, no matter how bright or consuming it is initially, has an expiration date. However that final chapter comes to its conclusion, either through a gradual parting of the ways or an abrupt clash of two worlds moving on different trajectories, it is a matter of fact that once in a while, things happen just the way they are meant to be. Fiona Amaka beautifully conveys this deeply touching but bittersweet realization by shedding off the thick layer of drama surrounding broken hearts and adding a spark of humor and insight to the situation. By not taking the closure of a great love affair as a complete failure, the song reinterprets it in a natural way as a seasonal change that is beautiful, even funny, and spiritually sacred.
Enjoying the stunningly beautiful, warm, and sunlit sonics of this track, “Sometimes Forever” is a smooth move towards organic folk-rock, the raw storytelling of Americana music, and the powerful beat of classic rock. She doesn’t produce ordinary background tunes but infuses her songs with a pure and undiluted essence of her soul and an unbridled passion and fervor in every note, melody, and lyric. Each time she releases a song, that unique artistic connection grows stronger, and I feel even closer to her experience, development, and brilliant mind than before.
