Ladies, gentlemen, and music lovers. Let’s welcome Irish artist LAOISE LEAHY. She vocalist and songwriter whose music combines alternative jazz, lush electronica, and lyrical folk influences to create something vibrant, warm, and genuinely real. Laoise’s debut EP, “breathe in and let go”, is Songs Born in the In-between, yearns for calm, self, and a shared sense of our untamed humanity. The four-song EP, released on 15th August, explores the places in the crevices beyond genre and expectation. Let’s talk more about it
The first song on the EP is “Breathe In”. The song opens with ocean sounds and the sound of someone breathing in. In the song, the character talks about breathing in and letting all the bad vibes out. The character talks about going to the sea to find calm and tranquility, which is a callback to the ocean sounds heard in the beginning. Finally, the song invites listeners to breathe in their problems and breathe them out to be able to make sense of life. Musically, the song is very calming and the vocal performance is very soothing, the instrumentation, plays very well with the vocal performance and creates a captivating song. This song will do well in wellness playlists and opens up the EP very beautifully
“Let it go (La Da Da)” is the second song on the EP. This song opens with a very striking melody and a soft repetition of “la da da”. We meet a very very stressed-out person. Aside from her own problems, she also faces backlash and guilt trips about her sisterly and daughterly duties. If fed up were a person, it would be the character in the song. On the verge of a breakdown, she admits that she wants to go far away and let go of her problems. Musically, this song has a cool vibe that is very exciting to listen to. The vocal performance is catchy and beautiful, we couldn’t have asked for anything less than the perfection this song is
Up next is “Starlight”. This song begins with a wonderful jazz melody and heavenly mouth percussion. In this song, we are encouraged to live on the edge, live free, and let our inner child run free. In the midst of our busy lives, sometimes, we forget to live but, this song reminds us to let our spirit free and let it all roll away before our time in life is up. Musically, this song treads the jazz trail very well. It is sensual and very exciting. Hearing this song live will be so amazing and I wish to experience it one day but for now, I will play it on repeat
The last song on the EP is called “A Timeless Place”. The song opens with a lovely piano melody that will make you stop and take it in. This song describes a place that sounds magical. This place has another way of living. The description of this place is just so amazing and I really wanted to go there. On the other hand, the song could be pointing to a person whose presence makes time stop and become a timeless place. Either way, I want to be there. Musically, we have a beautiful vocal performance. The piano was the forefront instrument and the solo was truly something great. This wonderful song ends the EP
This EP, created in close collaboration with renowned producer Christian Best and master musicians Johnny Taylor (piano), Barry Donohue (double bass), and Dominic Mullan (drums), and held generously by a treasured circle of musicians and friends, is both a shedding and a becoming—an invitation to pause, feel, and share some moments of calm and escape together.
This four-track EP is intended to be experienced as a journey, transitioning smoothly from airy, pensive soundscapes to vibrant, hook-driven tracks. Each track investigates the connection between breath, time, nature, and release. It’s a mix of genres and emotions that captures the complexities and beauty of our own inner life. It is a significant stride forward in Laoise’s recent personal journey, which has resulted from her exploration of a quieter realm of being and purpose beyond (and sometimes above) the cacophony. These songs, written and formed in the in-between moments of a full existence, seek universal human quiet, abandonment, and extension beyond the tug of time and obligation in an often seemingly meaningless world. I loved every bit of it. This EP really reminded me to breathe in and let go. Leahy is a true artist and I would love to hear more of her music
