Then there are a few artists who just write songs, and on the other hand, there are artists who create whole worlds with their movies and won’t allow music to be background noise in our lives. Elias Dream is an artist who belongs to the latter category, an incredible storyteller whose unique selling point lies in his ability to weave together the raw intensity of rap with the melodiousness of vocals, the edginess of rock, and the visuality of movies. The driving force that defines all his artistry is his creation of music pieces that act like mini-cinema pieces, which unravel the narrative arcs hidden within them. They explore the realities of life, which include love, great losses, fear, relentless hope, and tough choices that we face as humans. When he released his phenomenal track “Forever By Your Side” on August 25th, he didn’t just release one piece of music but gave us an entry pass into a moving picture for our ears. Join me on this exciting journey, since I am absolutely hooked and can’t wait to tell you more about this masterpiece.
Once all the noise around us has been stripped away, the only question that remains eternally relevant to us is this: Who will be there when the lights are turned off? This is the central theme of the song, which explores one of the rarest, unconditional forms of love: staying love. The song is an examination of a love that does not break when fear comes knocking at the door, that does not flee when pain begins its reign, and is especially loud in the most silent, heavy times when words alone can no longer fill in the void. From the point of view of a narrator addressing his partner of many years, the song offers an incredibly powerful promise to the listener, a pledge that despite time and the changes that come with it, including gray hair and wrinkles on his skin, he will always stand by her side. The promise of eternity instantly made me connect the singer to Noah and Allie, who are the legendary tragic lovers from one of the greatest love stories ever told in the movie, The Notebook. Like how the lover in Elias’s lyrics commits himself to any apocalypse to be there for his love, The Notebook takes us on an incredibly difficult and beautiful journey of human endurance, surviving the pain of being separated due to war, heartbreak, breakups, engagements to other people, and finally marrying the right person at the end of their life journey after going through many difficulties. As the last chapter of their story unfolds, marked by age and dementia, they continue to make the same commitment to love each other by holding each other’s hand and leaving the world together in peace. This is exactly what the promise of commitment in “Forever By Your Side” feels like.
Musically speaking, “Forever By Your Side” is a truly moving cinematic pop and soft rock opus where pure storytelling remains at the very forefront of everything from the beginning of the song to the end. The track is an incredible example of dynamic tension – it starts off with intimate lyrics sung so close to the microphone that you can almost hear the singer breathe, but soon, magnificently builds its powerful arrangement step by step until it engulfs you with the full force of a tidal wave.
One of the key elements that make the distinctive sound of Elias Dream unique is his passion for bringing the warm, organic sound of the classic Hammond B3 organ through the Leslie speaker cabinet into the track. This amazing combination of swirling analog warmth gives the track a timeless quality with a distinctively breathing heartbeat, which makes it feel both nostalgic and new at the same time. True to his style, Elias Dream doesn’t just sing about feelings and emotions in the abstract sense; instead, he acts as an auteur, creating vivid scenes, complex characters, and turning points meant to take the listener out of their world and put them right into his.
How beautiful a song this is, and how amazing a heartwarming message it leaves on our souls. With this song, Elias Dream has definitely proved one thing for certain: he is not interested in producing music just to make people listen to it as background noise; he makes sure that his listeners connect with the song, bleed with the characters, and feel everything about the story that is hidden behind it – and I am delighted to say that he has done a great job with that. I have become absolutely smitten with this song, and now I am waiting with bated breath for whatever he will produce next!
