Welcome to our lovely blog, music lovers, and my devoted readers. HARRY KAPPEN is an independent Dutch musician, producer, and music therapist who is the artist we are talking about today. He is an experienced musician and multi-instrumentalist with whom I am quite familiar. His album “Time Will Tell” and single “Be brave if you can” were an awakening that I still listen to regularly. I am very excited because he has returned to us with new music. This new song is titled “The Longing,” which was released on 1st October. Let’s dive deeper into the song.

The song opens with a very cool melody that is captivating. I felt like seeing in the headlights because of how awesome it was.

The Longing is about Harry’s everlasting conflict between his mind and his heart. The character in the song is still longing for a mysterious woman. The character struggles between genuine feeling and calm analysis. Sometimes it is hard to think straight in a relationship, and so, you lead with your heart even though sometimes your head is telling you to be rational. In the end, love is a risk that needs both heart and mind to be synced, for it to last for a long time.

Musically, ‘The Longing’ is quite dynamic, ranging from quiet atmospheres to strong rock, both influenced by his personal experiences as a rock guitarist in numerous bands while living in the north of the Netherlands (city of Groningen).

The song features a combination of acoustic and electric guitars, polyphonic vocal lines, alternations between introspective and explosive, a lyrical guitar solo, compelling orchestrations; it’s all there, and it’s an adequate representation of Harry’s multi-instrumentalist status for years, reflecting a true battle between head and heart, beautifully musically depicted.

They say that lightning doesn’t strike in the same place twice, but Harry hung struck twice; this is his third time striking gold. With each song, he goes beyond his limits. He has completely shattered the glass ceiling of music, and I can’t wait to hear more and more of his music.
