“MIDNIGHT”: A NEOCLASSICAL MASTERPIECE BY RICHARD GREEN AND IRENE VENEZIANO

It is our great privilege to welcome back a veritable titan of the trade, the one and only Richard Green, into our cyber domain. While the artist’s origins are rooted in Italy, the man himself was tempered in the artistic crucible of London, the UK capital, a city he has called home since 2012. In that time, he has managed the remarkable balancing act of marrying academic excellence with raw, unadulterated creativity. For the loyal readers of this space, you are surely familiar with the artist’s prior works, such as the anthems “Sea Of Memories” and “Ending up in a wrong way.” These are not simply songs, mind you; they are living, breathing entities that continue to reside on repeat in the recesses of the mind. The artist now returns to haunt the soul once more with his latest creation, “Midnight,” released on the 12th of January. It is a track that forces one to sit in the dark, to really listen. Let’s delve into the layers of this masterpiece.

The piece begins with a series of beautiful and unique tones that sound as if they are drops of water landing in a still pond, and then is instantly accompanied by the elegant movement of a violin melody in the background. It is a masterclass in beautiful minimalism, as the two sounds do not simply coexist but also entwine to create an otherworldly and stunning harmony that is both delicate and massive in scope. It is a beautiful challenge for the rest of the piece to follow this standard that is set in this introductory segment, as it is a hauntingly beautiful start that captures the essence of the “Midnight” hour itself.

“Midnight” is the pièce de résistance of this neoclassical trilogy, a melancholy yet intriguing ballad that is just as relevant today as it was when it was originally recorded. The enchanting quality of this song is not coincidental, however, but rather a product of a highly skilled collaboration recorded in a professional studio near Piacenza, Italy. “Midnight” is a creation of Richard Green’s that brings together the exceptional talents of pianist Irene Veneziano and the Archimia Strings Quartet, where every bow stroke and keystroke is imbued with a classical authority.

Even though this song has been out in the world for four years, its current promotional cycle as part of a completed trilogy demonstrates the larger intent behind Green’s artistic vision. This is a body of work that demonstrates his ability to prove himself as a versatile and innovative artist, capable of handling the rigor required by neoclassical music while still possessing a soul-stirring, modern edge. As he looks to branch out into new genres with his upcoming projects, “Midnight” is a haunting reminder of his ability to blend different styles of music together into one experience.

The ultimate sign of an artist’s greatness is that he or she can overcome doubt and win a listener’s heart as a true believer. Not only has Green provided a spectacular show, but he has also provided a kind of sonic conversion that demonstrates that classical and instrumental music can be just as powerful as any other modern-day anthem. His skill is a bridge between two worlds, and the melodies contained within “Midnight” are so complex and moving that they seem to exist beyond comprehension. The desire to participate in that world is the greatest compliment that a listener can offer to a musician. It is a sign that he or she has reached a deep and creative place in which he or she desires to be a part of that world of “hauntingly beautiful” sounds. Mr. Green may be looking back upon his London-made roots or forward to his next genre-bending endeavor, but he has already made it clear that he is a titan whose art allows others to dream alongside him.
