The 60-year-old Full House alumnus talked candidly about his marriage to his ex-wife Rebecca Romijn and how his dissatisfaction with his early career trajectory had impacted their union during an appearance on Sirius XM’s The Howard Stern Show.
After witnessing the Victoria’s Secret model’s career take off, Stamos acknowledged that he stopped putting his job first, which made him feel “emasculated” in their marriage. “I thought she was incredibly talented and I loved her.” Thus, I was delighted to assist Romijn, 50, in launching her acting career,” he remarked. But I overlooked my own belongings. I was simply not focusing on mine as she was taking off. It wasn’t her fault either.
Stamos remembered devoting “50, 60 percent” of his energy to everything in his life, including his marriage, with the thought that “well, my 50% is better than, you know, 99% of the people out there.” I don’t have to offer everything. I didn’t complete any work. I didn’t work as hard as I should have at everything,” he continued, stating that if he had focused his efforts on these aspects of his life, “my job and my life would have been a lot better.”
Before their breakup, Stamos believed his now-ex-wife “was trying to make it work because she cared” about him. He hasn’t seen Romijn since their joint meeting with their divorce counsel. “It was very much the opinion that she dumped me because her career was going great and mine wasn’t, and that’s humiliating,” he said. “I don’t hold it against her. People simply took that as their perception, and perhaps they weren’t incorrect. At that point, I wasn’t doing well and she was.”
