A return of the best kind comes to mind when greeting back Stephen H. Cumberbatch, affectionately referred to among the devoted as C’batch, even though saying that such a prodigious genius is just an artist would be a criminal omission, considering how he has created the very music that has defined our existence. At the core of all that Stevette Music, Inc. stands for, there is always the heart-beating inspiration that keeps pushing the envelope of possibilities through an unwavering quest for perfection. Still in awe of the divine transcendence of “Song for God” and the raw and pure cathartic release of “Trapped (I’m Doing Fine),” much less the beautifully expansive worlds created by the Next Time (I Won’t Be Falling) EP, the metamorphosing greatness of C’batch The Vault 2 (Soul/RNB/Pop/Rock/Reggae), and the hard-hitting yet polished duality of The Vault 1 (C’batch Smooth / Rough). But no true legend ever rests on their laurels, and C’batch certainly does not return empty-handed, as he has just given us an absolute masterpiece by way of “Next Time (I Won’t Be Falling/You’ve Got Me Falling).” Having come along for the ride with his music for as long as I have, I know that we are in for a transcendent experience. Let’s break down the specifics of this masterpiece.
That opening line starts with a taste of morning sunlight in your lungs, encased in a sunny melody that is both warm and vibrant, and a cute mouth percussion that is both flirtatious and intimate. But even though this introduction is beautiful, there comes a point when the real piece de resistance comes into play right at the same time that the vocal performance comes alive in the music. And as soon as this happens, there comes a sense of magnetism and magic in the air that makes it impossible not to be fully captivated by everything coming after this point.
Ultimately, at the core of the song is an uplifting and victorious anthem celebrating the frightening yet rewarding experience of continuing to move forward in life despite the unexpected storms, only to have the sun come out once more. Protecting oneself from heartbreak is natural for people who have already experienced pain because, as the saying goes, one gets to be gullible only once in one’s lifetime. However, taking on such an arduous task of opening the doors of one’s soul and heart again is akin to jumping down from the peak of a cliff, and yet, the song shows clearly how the experience turns into the most rewarding experience one will ever give himself if he dares to take the risk. The song itself is more than that; it is a slow but strong lifeline telling people that they should not hide themselves in the shadows of breakup blues anymore and allow love to find them.
Having blessed us with the initial version this year, C’batch is back to do his magic by creating an entirely new track with his fantastic remix, which makes you feel that the music was never made before. The track, officially titled “Next Time (I Won’t Be Falling/You’ve Got Me Falling), incorporates everything there is to love about C’batch’s soulful vocals and brilliantly sends it to space by blending it with the high-class of dance music production. The remix is a lesson on perfection as it brings together emotional storytelling with a catchy rhythm in one piece of music. This is a must-have track for all your mixes and radio shows, whether you’re doing a late-night dance mix, creating the perfect summer mix, or working on any lifestyle video project.
This is not only a song but an absolutely blazing and soaring anthem to the incredible bravery it takes to move on and suddenly stumble upon the road back into the sunshine and love once again. Now, to be completely honest, part of me wishes I could say I am shocked at the absolute perfection of this work, but in all reality, that just isn’t the case. It seems that with this artist, I simply cannot help but to watch him break barriers and defy the odds time after time because excellence is simply what he does. C’batch is out to conquer this world one song at a time, and I’m just excited to be tall enough for this ride!
