It’s our pleasure to bring back the artist who knows his way around the beats, Chris Owens, more popularly known within the rhythm scene as Chris Oledude. Hailing from the island of Puerto Rico where he was born and grew up in the States, Chris has spent his lifetime exploring the complex magic behind writing songs in their most authentic form. It’s not as though his music aims to fill the voids. No. Rather, his songs penetrate one’s bones and touch his soul. As far as my personal feelings go, no other musician can ever inspire the kind of hope I get from Chris’ work, such as songs as “We Will Get Through This” and “My Choice.” Thankfully, Chris has not been keeping the world waiting too long for another song. It’s on the 1st day of May that the man released his newest track, “Save The Children.”
The song begins with a bright, reggae-style tune that is full of energy and seems to beg for your participation. However, although the beat creates the right atmosphere, what makes the track truly special comes when Chris starts to sing. It only takes a few notes from his voice for listeners to feel attracted to his performance because there is something special about the way he sings that captivates you right away.
Underneath its catchy beat is a song that delivers a very serious message. The song acts as a mirror for the pain felt by mothers and those who adore childhood purity, drawing attention to the suffering of children caused by violence and war. Although there are many victims of war, the saddest outcome of any war is the empty hole left in the hearts of children. In his song, Chris highlights the plight of the innocent, defenseless children ripped away from their parents and loved ones, the young ones who lack any armor of their own against the machinations of war, having to deal with an uncaring world without the guardians they’ve always had.
From the metamorphosis of “Save The Children,” one can clearly see how the soul of the song is immortal. From a 6/8 rocker first written in 1983, which came as a shock and impact like a bomb hitting its target, the song has evolved into something far much better. Noticing that such heavy content required a different platform, the song has been altered into something that can effectively carry its soul. Reggae, rock, jazz, and folk have found their perfect blend within this song to form a well-put-together sound of music. For the people who prefer to experience the song in full effect, the album version of “Save The Children” has an even more interesting intro and outro for them.
In light of the new song release, Chris has managed yet again to demonstrate that he has an unfailing compass toward meaningful music. In the face of an ever-shifting landscape, Chris’s dedication to “intentionality” has come to serve as a much-needed antidote, encouraging the reminder that art is at its finest when it dares to stand up and speak for the weak. Until the specter of war and brutality continues to loom large, the sentiment of “Save The Children” will not only remain relevant but essential—a timely beat that must be heard by all of humanity. It is imperative that we thank Chris for providing another powerful victory, and until then, we wait eagerly to see what comes next from this masterful mind.
