Thus, on August 14, 2026, Patrik Byström offered yet another piece of art to the public in the form of a ten-track record named Salted Wounds N Sugar Lies. Performing in his trademark style of a burning blues-rock band, Deltastray, Byström comes from the rich musical culture of Sweden, where he reinterprets the legendary blues in his own contemporary, atmospheric, and vivid way. As a musical track, Hurricane in my Rearview excels at tension-building and uses sweeping instrumentation to capture the power of a storm approaching. From a purely auditory perspective, an acoustic guitar plucks alone a sorrowful motif that kicks off the narrative of “The Devil’s Last Apology”. This song is about the burden of responsibility, forgiveness, and recognizing the fact that perhaps our own personal devils or enemies will one day regret the harm they have caused us, but it might come a little too late and maybe even a little too little. This is a turning point for any villain when they realize that they have the chance of being forgiven. The vocals in this piece are dramatic, yet very real and carry the gravitas of a tragic sincerity that is hard to overlook. The instrumentation is intimate, with just strings underlying softly to create cinematic poignancy.
An eerie sound of electric feedback gradually dissolves into a constant, rhythmic drumbeat that forms an enthralling groove and heralds “Echoes don’t beg for forgiveness”. The key element of the concept is the fact that our actions, along with the memories left from them, cannot be erased, and that the echoes of these actions do not ask for forgiveness but only stand as memorials of the past. Vocally, DELTASTRAY makes a commanding appearance, singing his song twice to form a powerful wall of sound that is both remote and hauntingly close. The music in this case is powered by the rhythm guitar, percussion accents, and bass line that keep pushing the song forward in relentless motion.
